The wheel kept turning: ages came, time passed us by. We lived in perfect harmony!

T
Source

Vinyl Scratch (aka: DJ PON-3) thought she was disk-jockeying a perfectly normal gig in Canterlot, but when she shows up, she finds the Royal Night Orchestra has taken over the club and her clients have disappeared. Attending the Orchestra's party only deepens the mystery, as it seems somepony is trying to conquer all the musicians of Equestria using the musical talents of the bowed beauty Octavia. If Vinyl wants to have any hope of winning Octavia's hoof and getting to the bottom of why her show was cancelled, she'll have to pour all her Bass Power into winning the Royal CanterlotWar of the Wubs music contest to attain a Royal Rank as a musician herself!

As if that would stop her. The power of Harmony (Remixes) will prevail!

With special thanks to prereader MidnightShadow!

Let the Battle of the Bands...BEGIN~!:pinkiehappy:

Don't FUCK with Vinyl.

Oh yeah by the way this is REALLY FREAKING GOOD.
Please, continue.

When is next chapter!!

BUYSOMEAPPLES BUYSOMEORANGES BUYSOMEPEACHES? What witchcraft is this?

4369006
The witchcraft of friendship.

4274714
Whenever I get the spare time to actually write it :facehoof:.

4370233 friendship is not witchcraft.

4369006 It took me nearly to the end of the first chapter to figure out what they were for. I thought at first that it was ponies in the background of Canterlot trying to sell wares, but I realized that wasn't the case after Scratch entered the club.

They're actually just there as placeholders for curse words.

4478636 I got to do that the next time I talk to police.
"I have no BUYSOMEAPPLES clue why you pulled me over? No officer, I wasn't BUYSOMEORANGES speeding. You have a nice day you BUYSOMEPEACHES DISCORD!"

You may find this helpful background material.

Dudist Beach

...say what?

Dudist... BEEEEEEACH!

Well geez, if you're not going to tell me the real name of the client... :ajbemused:

"Thank you, bass god," she said in reverence to the Great and Powerful Trigger, who watched over awesomeness.

Alignment: Chaotic Awesome
Portfolio: See above
Holy symbol: A pair of scissors, for obscure theological reasons.

...the Grand Caterer herself...

:twilightoops: Oh no. Oh no...
Oh yes. :pinkiehappy:

In you we will crush rock, hip-hop, and electronica, and show everypony that there can be no resistance to the triumph of classical music over all others!

Silly Lyra. Don't you know that you can't kill the metal?

All references aside, this is going to be awesome. I look forward to more.

Cue polka remix of Kiる厭KiLL.

You guys really make me glad I'm working on this every morning and night, just before and after sleep.

How had she once been one of the stupid and simple ponies who trampled blindly through their lives, stepping wherever a song told them to step?

That brings Fugue State to mind...

As for the rest, Lyra's thoughts are flawed, but entirely understandable. I have to wonder how she's garnered so much influence, though it's unclear how many years it's been since Tirek's return. In any case, excellent work modelling her motivation. I just hope she doesn't have a daughter... :fluttershyouch:

And it makes sense that NDudist Beach wouldn't skeeve out new recruits as much in a clothing-optional society. The deviation from the norm is very intriguing, though. I eagerly look forward to where you go with this.

As it turns out, Fugue State was subconsciously on my mind when writing Lyra's mentality there, but seen through the lens of the "fashion = fascism" metaphor. I was distinctly thinking of some kind of fanon where ponies just do whatever a song calls for, by some herding instinct or something.

Deviation from the norm?

Never mind. I suspect I'm thinking about this the wrong way, seeing the story as a straight crossover rather than a more elaborate fusion story. I'll just sit back and watch the fireworks.

Bonus points for the hammerspace. Reality-warping earth pony magic is always a big plus in my book.

They didn’t really seem to get that you couldn’t totally change what sort of pony you are just by putting on a new outfit.

Mmm, irony. Loved the Night Orchestra's failed REVOCS impression too.

Where else does a pony meet secret contacts?

Hyde Park?

And that the directions were Hubward, Rimward, Turnwise, and Widdershins, a system used by nopony outside the Crystal Empire in the entirety of ever.

The more I read, the more convinced I am that this chapter was written specifically for my tastes.

This, I emphasize, is totally unlike the traditional secret meeting place, the park, where you can take a quiet walk together, feed ducks, and have every single spy in Equestria try to work out if you’re a couple or sharing confidential information after looking up your identities.

See what I mean?

I love the idea of dressage as an earth pony martial/musical art... and pretty much everything else here. Lyra has an almost Lovecraftian bent to her, what with her reverence for elder things. Eagerly looking forward to more.

Oh, I never thought of him having a sexy metal guy voice. I always heard his voice in my head as Carlos Marin. Like this. Except he's saying CRYSTALS!!!
...
Not that it would work in this chapter or story.

5499209 I think this depends on your thinking all metal voices are sexy.

5502695 No. Some metal voices are not sexy. Those voices just give me a head migraine.

I wish my bed warmer was here. Been an hour. Well I like more of the bed warmer it's just so cold here and I'm waiting for those burgers. Never mind, just got up and i'm trying to get my head on straight.

Your Bass Cannon link don't work, so I don't know which one you were trying to get, so I just got one. It still worked great.

Thought of this story when I watched and listen to this.

... You have my attention. I'll get to this tomorrow.

So, apparently 'tomorrow' actually means 'two weeks later'. Maybe this explains your update schedule? :P

Seriously, I'm looking forward to more of this.

6608525 My update schedule is explained by IRL busy-ness. Lots of it.

6608525 Also a writer's block that I only just figured out how to sorta work around this week?

Glad I could lend a little assistance.

The Bearers of the Elements becoming a very indelicate, six-fingered hand of destiny is a very interesting development. I'm not sure if you're going somewhere with that or just designating them as the nuclear option, but it's still something to keep in mind.

In any case, epic stuff, as I've come to expect from this story. The Fibers are out for all to see, and they seem to be working overtime to adapt this species into something useful. Looking forward to more.

Congrats on another PROCUREAQUANTITYOFFRUITS update!

Returning to this atm... The Elements of Harmony are now considered such big guns that both heroic and villainous operators plan around avoiding them: villainous because they want to actually win, heroic because they either want to achieve their own destiny or because they want to defy Destiny.

Equestria's worldbuilding tends to be based off Greco-Roman mythology, and so the attention of Destiny is something you only want to attract... sometimes.

But wait, there's more! Ekplissomancers (gonna have to use that in the story and see who catches it) are actively aware of Destiny, can see its work around them, can see into the outside of the universe where the thread of Destiny is spun, and can even manipulate it. The Pink One is the most fearsome of these, for she's both Destiny's instrument and its most aware manipulator.

Honestly I'm just tagging you because you'll like the word "ekplissomancer".
