Timberwolves: Guardians of the Everfree
By Blackthorn of Thicket, Princess Luna of Canterlot, and Apex of Everfree.

This volume explores the colorful, mythical tale of the Everfree timberwolves. Part history and part study, the authors provide their experiences, discoveries, and stories. From creation, design, and communication, to the ecological impact of these golems, a full breadth of topics are explored. Each author has hoof-crafted and raised at least one timberwolf, and today the legend of the Vorku species is finally shared with the world.

After a surprise attack along her favourite patrol route, Princess Luna crashlands into the Everfree Forest, battered and broken. Outside the walls of the sanctuary of the strange pony that rescued her, the dangerous denizens of the Everfree lurk. Forced to remain in hiding while her sister secretly investigates, how will she cope under the mysterious canopy of the Everfree and without the luxury of her castle?

There is a thin line between a princess and a wild forest pony, thinner than a zap apple stem. Now it's up to Luna not to cross it.

A long time ago a prophecy was made by my ancestors, that a time would come when one of our wolf kind would be needed. A dark presence was coming toward our land, our homes. What it wanted most of all was to destroy our peaceful way of life, take our forest village for its own, and bathe the grass and trees in our blood.
But the prophecy states, if a pony can love the wolf for who he is, together their power would be enough to defeat this evil, and vanquish it back to the bowels of Tarturus from whence it came. So comes our story in the present day, when the evil looms near. Will we succeed? Or will we be doomed?

With the shrine maiden nowhere to be seen, it's up to ordinary magician Marisa Kirisame to bring back the shrine and its caretaker before it's too late.

Meanwhile in the town of Ponyville, a mysterious shrine has appeared in the Everfree Forest, fiercely protected by an equally mysterious mare. With the rest of Ponyville still shaken by the latest disaster, it's up to aspiring musician Lyra Heartstrings to discover the truth about the shrine and the mysteries within.

When Twilight Stumbles upon a cave on her way Zecora's, she awakens something ancient, in fact its the reason the Everfree forest exists in the first place, so when she wakes up an enormous monstrosity half the size of Ponyville, she isn't expecting it to whine at her for waking it and saying it didn't want to go to school today.

Timberwolves are well-known in the city of Equestria for many things: Their ability to combine into a stronger, united being, their ferocious nature if angered, and their existence being proof of the Everfree Forest's dangerous nature.

Diamond Tiara, however, certainly doesn't get that impression with the tiny, defenseless creature she comes across...

Timberwolves. Among the most fearsome creatures to lurk in the depths of the Everfree, these hulking, wooden monstrosities have sharp senses that make them deeply efficient at hunting and tracking ponies and other sentient beings that wander into the forest—and making sure they don't ever leave. Anypony with a lick of common sense knows they're not something to be trifled with, and any (generally ill-advised) venture into the Everfree must be done in groups and/or with extreme caution.

The new species of hairless ape that keeps falling from dimensional portals in the sky into the depths of the forest, however, seems to be entirely lacking in said common sense.

Not to be taken especially seriously. (Not that me saying so is seemingly stopping anyone.) Features implied violence, but no gore.

Pre-read by Dewdrops on the Grass and The Sleepless Beholder. Inspired by discord conversations with Estee about the common "Mandatory Timberwolf Encounter" trope in Human in Equestria stories.

The Everfree Forest has a delicate balance, and the timberwolves uphold it. When a young hydra disrupts the forest's order, a timberwolf hunts it down.

I do not know if this needs the gore tag, but I figure that it is better to be safe.
