Welcome to the Contest

In my extremely UNscientific survey, stories about Fluttershy wanting to be a tree receive more than a hundred likes each, 'on average.' (I took the average over all the stories in the "Arboreal Yearnings" group.)

Don't you want to harvest this enormous Fluttertree/treepony/'firry' fanbase for yourself? You should write a story for the new "Arboreal Yearnings" group and contest!

Stories should be about a pony or other creature wanting to be a tree, becoming a tree, pretending to be a tree, or actually being a tree. A few example stories are in the group already.

Timberwolf stories go in their own special Dishonorable Creatures contest folder, where they can compete for their own Dishonorable Mention award.

Please show off your ability to write a meaningful, funny, thought-provoking, or even just startlingly original story.

Put your contest entries in THE APPROPRIATE CONTEST FOLDERS: Arboreal Yearnings Contest I (Trees) or Dishonorable Creatures Contest I (Timberwolves.) You'll have to join the group for at least long enough to do that.

There is no limit to how many stories you can enter, or how long your story can be...but if a story bores me (or any other judge), your judge might not finish reading it.

Contest closes ~on~ at the end of April 22, 2023: midnight ~Pacific Standard Time (US)~ Pacific Time (US) At this time of the year, "Pacific Time" includes daylight savings time, keeping synchrony with the time zone used in California, Oregon, and Washington state.

If this is your first story ever on fimfiction.net and you can't get it to pass fimfiction moderation before the contest deadline, you can send me (Mockingbirb) a link and password to read your story. It would help if you can do that a bit before the contest deadline, though.

I have no idea how many prizes will be awarded, or if there will be any judges other than myself.

So far as I know, the only things given to the winners might be 'honor and glory' and a bit of promotion, like being featured in the group and in my fimfiction.net blog.

No porn, please. Writing a story to NOT be M rated is its own art, and will make judging easier.

Edit 1: It would be nice if your story's "long description" links to the group's contest announcement / rules.

Edit 2: The story's first publication, whether on fimfiction.net or elsewhere, should be during the contest period beginning 22 February 2023 and ending at the 'contest closes' date and time listed above. (We have not so far made arrangements to accept entries not posted as stories on fimfiction.net.)

Edit 3: New rules to allow entries that are less than 1000 words, or in script format! (link)

Edit 4: Authors may freely edit their stories until the 'contest closes' date and time listed above. At or after that point, any edits should be minor and should be clearly listed in the story's Author's Note or Long Description.

Authors are also welcome to list any edits made during the contest period, in case that helps reduce confusion for anyone.
