During the search for an artifact powerful enough to help her defeat the ponies, one of Chrysalis's scouts brings the Crystal Mirror. Not knowing what it really does, she activates it and is sent to the world of CoD Modern Warfare, where she accidentally saves a main character, foils terrorist plots and gets her human disguise blown. Not exactly in that order.

Before leaving, she selects Pharynx as the temporary ruler, but after their Queen doesn't return in a few days the changelings start to worry, and Pharynx is forced to open negotiations with Equestria in the hope of getting the ponies's help to get Chrysalis back.

This story is a sequel to The Young Warrior

As a young changeling, Pharynx Elytron was known by all his fellow nymphs as the toughest, most ferocious of them all. And if you touched his brother, you were guaranteed to be beaten up later. When it was time for them to be apprenticed, they all hoped to be picked by the best of the best, the legendary Aureum in Generali, Fortuna-domina. The changeling had never taken an apprentice before, but with two royal children in the newest batch of apprentices, the nymphs were sure she had to make her appearance. Yet, when it was time for the nymphs to be matched with mentors, Fortuna chose Pharynx, the one changeling that they were all sure didn't need the guidance the rest of them deserved.

A king serves his country in many ways. He must care for his subjects’ needs, set roles of conduct, cooperate with leaders of other lands to ensure peace; he must live up to his subjects’ hopes and expectations and be a role model to inspire those around him. But there is one more duty a king must fulfill: to ensure there is someone to pass the torch to, should he not live forever.

If only it were so easy...

When Apex Cornea asked Pharynx-dominus, Head General of the Hive's army, to mentor him, he never expected the outbreak of near war with the ponies. He never expected his mentor to be called away. He never even considered that Thorax, the Outcast, the Heirless Prince, the Rankless One, would try to leave the Hive because he doesn't believe in their methods.

Even more so, he never thought that he would end up seeing the older changeling...kind of has point. Now, there is so much more in store for him than he ever expected.

On Christmas Eve, many years ago I lay quietly in my bed. I did not rustle the sheets. I breathed slowly and silently. I was listening for a sound I was afraid I'd never hear. The ringing bells of Santa's sleigh. Little did I realise I would be taken on a journey beyond my wildest imagination, and make some new friends along the way.

A very heavy re-write of my original adaptation of The Polar Express, with new characters, plot, and dialogue. Written for Hearth's Warming 2020.
