When Twilight Sparkle was just a kid, her best friend was a girl named Sunset Shimmer. Though their friendship had a bit of a rocky start, they quickly became inseparable, no matter how much everyone thought of them as ‘weird’. They were there for each other.

Years after the tragic accident that tore them apart, Twilight is determined to move on from her loss, and she sets off on an independent research project to investigate the strange happenings at Canterlot High. Little does she know that she will soon come face to face with what appears to be a literal ghost from her past.

Sunset Shimmer loves Twilight Sparkle. Twilight was her first friend, the first one to forgive her. And yet Sunset rarely sees her. She misses her dearly.

This feeling in Sunset's heart soon turned to love, and nothing could stop this love from growing stronger. But a simple mistake, a misinterpreted exchange of words, could be all that is needed to stop it from blossoming.

Twilight wants to learn how to play guitar and Sunset is her only option. But Sunset has a little problem about it. She really can’t teach anything when Twilight keeps being so… adorkable. Things escalated quickly. And Sunset could only blame the adorable girl, she was a dork.

A few weeks after the return from her second visit to Canterlot High, when the Princess of Friendship runs out of royal duties and busy work, she needs to find something to pass the time while her friends go about their busy schedules. Deciding to travel back through the portal to Canterlot High, she meets up with her parallel, human friends. However, when Pinkie decides to host another slumber party at her place, Sunset Shimmer begins acting differently towards the others.
Maybe whatever she is hiding she doesn't fully understand herself.

Sunset Shimmer feels mistreated at Canterlot High and wants to go back to Equestria. She asks Twilight to convince the Princess to let her return. Adventure ensues and possibly a romance between the Princess's student and ex-student.

Darkness. It was a strange and ominous thing. It creeped through every crack and absorbed the light. The murkiness was clouded and it filled Sunset Shimmer’s eyes as they slowly peered open. She looked around, dazed and confused on what was happening, and where she was. The smell of forest filled her lungs as she stood up slowly on her feet hooves. She paused, her hooves. She screamed, ’What?!’ She examined the rest of herself. “Oh no no no no, this can’t possibly be right!”

After transferring to Canterlot High, Twilight Sparkle realizes she has a crush on Sunset Shimmer. Being the analytical type, she develops a plan to capture Sunset's heart...using the scientific method.
