While out on a cutie mark crusade, the Crusaders happen upon a lone changeling on the edges of the Everfree Forest. After a scuffle the changeling finds itself injured and trapped in Ponyville. Seeing an opportunity to earn their cutie marks the girls take the changeling in, planning to teach it about Equestria.

However what they don't know is the changeling is actually the Commander to the Changeling Empire, and he has his own plans in mind.

But soon events play out for the four as they endure the aftermath of the Canterlot Invasion, and perhaps toughest of all: Each other. Lessons are learned and stories are shared between one another, leading the changeling to question its motives, and itself. Leading it to ask the biggest question of all:

"Can creatures that's special talent is to change its appearance, change in other ways...?"

Toxic Haze, the unlikely spawn of a dragon and a changeling, is a rare breed in Equestria. The only one of his kind, some might say. When his Hivequeen attempts to kill him to cleanse her hive of his disgrace, a pair of goddesses rescue him, giving him a new life in their kingdom.

Queen Chrysalis is sending her younglings to be trained by Changelings already hiding within pony society in preparation for the final assault on the kingdom. One of the younglings lands within the Everfree forest and is taken in by Fluttershy. Soon Equestria will discover that it is too late, and only he has the key. But will Equestria come to accept him, or more importantly, will he accept himself.

Changelings are monsters, that's not a lie or an exaggeration of facts, I have to know it because I am one.
But I'm not exactly like them, I'm...different. I don't lurk in the shadows and try to absorb your love or something similar, I don't do such stuff. The others from my species disown me, they can feel that I'm not like them. I don't belong into their hive but I also don't belong to the rest of Equestria. Most changelings only want to feed on love and serve their queen, defending her with their lives. But Scales the changeling has never seen eye-to-eye with the others. All he wanted to do was cook. Changeling 011, a high drone in the changeling hive, is banished by Queen Chrysalis and is forced to live within the Everfree forest. After a fight with a chimera, he ends up nearly killed and is found by Fluttershy who tries to heal 011 back to health. Within the following days, she starts to regret bringing 011 to her home as he keeps attempting to escape. That is until she discovers a painful secret from the changeling which makes her see that even monsters have feelings as well.

When Angel returns from picking carrots, Fluttershy finds him to be more responsible and willing to be helpful without being asked. Her mood goes from delighted to confused when they are confronted by another "Angel"
