The town is engulfed in fog. A pony sits in his cabin, fearful of what lurks outside. It wants inside, and it scratches at his door.

Warning: the following story is my attempt to write a ghost story.

Filliedelphia's police were called to respond to a concerned call to investigate someone screaming at the Sanctuary Mental Hospital, a condemned lunatic asylum outside of the city. They quickly found that the supposedly haunted hospital not only contained three corpses, but a changeling that was strapped to a rotting bed, screaming his head off.

After identifying the bodies and picking up some clues, detective Hoof Print is called to interview the only living witness to the crime. Bringing his tape recorder with him, he begins the interview with the question: What was doing at the abandoned mental hospital to begin with?

The hands of the clock keep turning. The passage of time continues its unrelenting march. Twilight and her friends continue to live rich lives, accomplishing their dreams and so much more. Yet, what is Twilight to do when, one day, she realizes she doesn't know her friends that well anymore?

Written for April Fools 2014. A bit of sad to balance out all the shenanigans.

Twilight Sparkle broke time when she got her cutie mark. Now Twilight and Sparkle are sisters from another time. Twilight is hailed as the potentially greatest light magician of all time, and already has a reputation as a hero by the time she goes to Ponyville. This isn't her story, not primarily.

Sparkle is an orphan - her dark magic killed her parents. She lives with her brother in Canterlot's industrial sector because they can't afford anything better. She can't leave either. She's a natural dark mage; while Sparkle won't go mad like Sombra, her reputation is hardly any better. Worse, the law doesn't see her as a good pony.

The fact that the dead don't stay dead around her, or that Thorn - Spike's double - is an undead, soul-eating abomination, are other matters altogether.

The horrors of the catacombs have turned to distant memories for Celestia, Twilight, and Luna. Discord’s change of heart and Twilight’s coronation have helped to ease and erase the mental scars from that harrowing night. Far to the west of Equestria, beyond the vast Luna Ocean, there lies a country of emerald fields and twinkling coastlines. And the gleaming capital of this country, Elmshire, is a fairytale metropolis of skybound spires and pretty ponies. It is a city of greatness, where historic tales are forged and reforged—begun and ended. From withstanding the epic darkness of the draconic war, to redefining the modern gemstone industry, to being the purported birthplace of Princess Cadance herself, none can contest its brilliance.

But those are stories for another time. For as grand as the city is, it is nothing without the small, mundane ponies who fill it.

Lilligold is one of these ponies. An obscenely shy but immeasurably talented mare, she is the pinnacle of an Elmshire-bred pony. Being the owner of a well-renowned plant shop specializing in the most peculiar of flora, she has her fair share of stories to tell. Take a glimpse, if you would, into the life of one of Elmshire's more unique residents.
