Again, these are quite literally sorrow, insanity, regret, fear and depraved darkness in mental and physical form used to torture and wear the victim down after a extended length of time or beings made flesh by strange matter of the world and sent out to do a single task....depends on what Ilos wishes to claim in the minds of the victims at the time.
Most likely, in this story at least, it seems they found something that caused Ilos to go absolutely bat shit and just demanded a purge of all who laid eyes upon the relic and a possible return of the relic to his altar. the stallion was smart enough to do what needed to be done.

That's brutal. It's extremely sad that so many of these events happen without the ponies actually seeing what is occurring. But that is a mark of true horror...keeping things from being revealed until the time is right.

Short, simple, with enough mix of horror and mystery to keep the reader going. You revealed enough to keep us wanting more, but the unknown, like the fog, permeated throughout the story, and like the body being dragged into the nothingness, the story wraps up nicely.

Whoa, this is literally just the Movie "The Mist" based on Stephen king's book "The Mist" it was so similar the only difference was the ending where soldiers didn't show up immediately after and save the entire day right after he committed suicide. That scene was honestly definitely one of my favorite scenes in cinema history. So I am pretty sad that you didn't go through but oh well we cant have everything that we want.
