Twilight Sparkle has fulfilled her destiny and become the sole ruler of Equestria.

Unfortunately, at her first council meeting, she learns a terrible truth.

Equestria is a bit of a mess.

A short one shot where Twilight goes to give Rarity a gift while she is in Canterlot.

Five hundred years have past since Celestia and Luna handed the reigns of rulership to Princess Twilight Sparkle. Five centuries of unprecedented peace and prosperity.

So it came as a surprise to the sisters when Princess Twilight requests their presence in Canterlot. But the biggest shock is her second request.

Twilight will be out of Equestria for some time on an important diplomatic mission, and she needs someponies to take over while she's away.

Seeing as how long they had once done so, Celestia and Luna agree to temporarily take back their old titles. It shouldn't be that hard to rule again.

Right?

Princess Twilight Sparkle has overseen peace and prosperity throughout Equestria for as long as ponies can remember. During a quiet evening, Twilight tells the tale of her many adventures to her latest student and how she remembers her friends long passed.

But she can't tarry too long, for she has a long-overdue meeting to attend.

At her coronation after-party, Twilight gets a little freaked out at the prospect of growing into her new life, especially one specific aspect of it. She knows better than anyone that talking her problems over with a friend can help tremendously, but she doesn't have many friends with whom she'd be comfortable talking about this particular problem, let alone ones who would really understand what she's going through.

...unless she broadens her definition of "friend."
