No one ever wants to fight for the Rebels during reenactments of battles from the Equestrian Civil War; they're the bad guys, and they always lose. When Spike is placed on the Rebel side yet again so that Twilight can continue to win, he enlists the help of Starlight Glimmer and several thousand other ponies in launching a protracted reenactment conflict which will finally allow him to prove his worth and triumph over Twilight and the rest of his friends. This story is complete with enough Civil War humor to make Fredricksburg look like Sharpsburg.

A soft Teen rating for tobacco/alcohol use.

Inspired by a wallpaper commission I got from the very talented mourning-dreams (mourning-dreams.deviantart.com).

Spike's future is undetermined, with a role he has yet to accept and a struggle over his destiny, between the family he grew up with or the family he needed. With time, he may not be the same as he was before and what the changes that have manifested with him, may hold.

When Spike sees Scootaloo unhappy at the thought of never flying, he decides to personally help her take to the sky. They study a book on the art of flying from Twilight to find what Scootaloo is still missing, and gradually they begin to make some progress. But Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash are concerned that the duo might be risking their own safety as their efforts become increasingly dangerous.

This takes place in the canon MLP universe (or the canon fanfic MLP universe if you'd prefer). There is humor, here and there, but it's largely a slice of life.

I will say once again that this is not a shipping fan fiction. I am not shipping Spike and Scootaloo or Twilight and Rainbow Dash; all these relationships are platonic. That being said, I may be open to trying to create a romantic fanfic in the future, but for now, I'm sticking with platonic.

This is another idea I kept pondering and wanted to share. I thought it would be a great idea for an MLP episode but I realized those writers can't read my mind.

Huge kudos to Jerome for drawing the cover art.

Rainbow Dash discovers Spike has the makings of a great archer to represent Ponyville in the next Equestria Games and decides to train him, but dragon-hating officials, and a dragon-fearing town are bent to bar him, and possibly Ponyville, from the Games.

Edited by Fan Without a Face. Huge thanks to him for all his criticism, feedback, and edits . If you ever need an editor, I highly recommend him.

A few things to know: According to the MLP wiki, there is a section of Fillydelphia where dragons live called Dragon Town.

I've had this story planned for a year now, but haven't gotten around to writing it due to personal issues. I like to think of it as a spiritual successor to my most popular story "The Measure of a Dragon" in that it deals with similar themes of isolation and being an outsider. Although Dr. Saffron and Silver Stone won't be making an appearance, I do have some new friends and foes waiting to meet our favorite dragon. The subject matter may get a bit dark at times, but I truly believe this is a story well worth telling.

A scientist wants to take Spike and study him in hopes of understanding dragons; however, her questionable methods make Spike refuse. The scientist counter-argues that Spike is not a pony and the same rights given to a pony, do not apply to him. A trial is commenced with Twilight as Spike’s defense attorney and Cadence as the unwilling prosecutor; Twilight must prove that Spike does indeed deserve the same rights as any pony. Or else, Spike is a lab rat that she will never see again.

This is a fanfic inspired by a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Measure of a Man, directed by Robert Scheerer. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
I want to thank the person who brought me into the fandom for helping me truly refine this idea and truly give it life. You know who you are!
I will say right now, updates for this fanfic may be highly irregular until I take care of certain obligations, but I promise not to abandon it until it's done.
