The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » Role Playing · 2:13am Mar 19th, 2014

In light of various performance issues with the site, I've been looking at the sort of thing that's been causing it and by looking through slow queries I've discovered that the vast majority of the issues are caused by maybe 10 users, all of which is role playing.

Consequently, I am banning role playing from the site in all locations. User pages, blog posts, groups, consider it banned everywhere now. It does not contribute to the site in any way other that destroying the servers. To give you an idea just how ridiculous this has gotten, this is something I found on my hunt.

Roleplaying groups have a day before we start moving around to delete these groups. If you want to roleplay, please take it to your own chat instead.

Thank you.

edit: I'm not going to delete the groups anymore, just clean up problematic threads.

Staff note: Not deleting the groups does not mean that RP groups are acceptable. Previous groups were allowed to remain for archival purposes, but for all intents and purposes, roleplaying is not allowed on Fimfiction. Please try to conduct any attempts at RP on sites that are better suited for handling it.

The day RP broke the site.

Thank god, forum-type RP is annoying and often stupid anyways.

Thaums #3 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 12 ·

If you need to roleplay, please, take it to a chat system or a forum (one not hosted on Fimfiction).

holy hell, that number is huge....

ReFro #6 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 5 ·

But Knightly-chaaaannnn~~~

hahahahahah yes hahaha yes

Holy shit... Ten users? Is that all?

God in heaven, no wonder I thought it was 'bad'. It was. For the site.:rainbowwild:

How badly does that actually affect the site? Just wondering.

Holy mother of Celestia, ten users did that?!

*whistles softly* Almost 70 thousand comments/posts. That is nutty. I never knew there was roleplaying on the forums, but I guess I should have known. Good that it has been brought to light as a data hogging unnecessary problem.

TACO Edit: Now 100% more politically incorrect!

Normal #13 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 5 ·

I'll be sad to see those somewhat stories leave us, even if they may be a hinderance.

What's next? King of the Hill?
With my luck...yes.

Eh. I'll try to live without Role-Playing...

All of the issues was 'cause of stupid ass roleplaying?!

Meh. There are WAY better sites to RP on than FIMfic. The user interface is meant for comments and brief conversation, not full-on roleplay. I can't understand how they put up with it. Though, I've yet to find a decently populated pony-only RP site that I like. Anyone have any suggestions?

Whelp, time to start packing my bags and moving somewhere else

That would explain why's made a comeback. My jim jams are unaffected by this admin decision.

Time to follow the Shitstorm Evacuation Route away from the coast before the storm makes landfall, breaches the levees, and Poultron fails to competently run the Fimfiction Emergency Management Agency in the aftermath while thousands die.

While I personally dislike RPing, It can't possibly be so bad tha-

Yeah, goodbye Rp. Stop hogging the data and slowing the system!

That's an unhealthy amount of roleplaying time.:rainbowderp:

I found a RP thread with 100,196 comments.

I like RPs but I don't do them here, it's not the site for that! :applejackunsure:

Well... that's a shame, but entirely understandable. I support forum roleplaying, had a lot of fun with it in the past, but this... well, it isn't a forum. So, no complaints-- they can make a forum if they really want to RP. It's not terribly difficult to set one up these days, and I think it can be done for free oftentimes.

Warwolf #25 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 27 ·

This post is inappropriate on multiple levels and I request you delete it out of respect for good taste if not common courtesy.

As far as the roleplay thing itself goes....I honestly didn't even know there were any roleplay groups here. But I somehow have a very difficult time believing a mere ten users caused this. Though in any case, it doesn't have any direct impact on me, so I guess I really have little to nothing to complain about. *shrug* I do feel bad for these guys though.

1936644 I'd rather not.

Welp maybe they can get a fucking chat room.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I like RPing, but yeahhhh, this isn't exactly the place for it. I agree with taking it to a site meant for it or a chat service.

This is me every time I can not get on this web site

Site Owner

1936619 One of the users involved had 1% of the total notifications on the site, and their database queries would repeatedly lock up the whole site.

jk jus bein' silly, I'm actually totally okay with this decision if it improves site performance

EDIT: Yes, that is in fact Terry Crews there, and yes, it makes this scene even more awesome

If you want to roleplay, please take it to your own chat instead.

Does this include FIMfic PMs? I know you said "everywhere" but I just wanted to make sure you meant "EVERYWHERE."

Yikes. :twilightoops:

Wow, bronies persecuting each other. Never though I'd see the day.

Holy crap that is ridiculous. Nice job breaking the site, RPers. :ajbemused:

1936638 So, would I be able to have a group that advertises a roleplay being run on another website if it had no actual roleplay going on inside it?

...And nothing of value was lost.

Oh man, less than 50 comments in and we got our first "persecution" comment! Woohoo!

You've been on this site for 110 weeks, how have you NOT seen it?

EdBoii #42 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 8 ·

I can't help but express my most sincere disapproval of this. :rainbowkiss:

Here, I shall leave all of my angry purple horses as a demonstration.

This is why most RP groups on the site usually use chatrooms off-site. Or a forum made for the purpose. Or just use the group forums as a kind of meeting grounds to arrange games and stuff.

And I'd rather you not make references to people as 'retards' as this is in exceedingly bad taste and is offensive in general to anyone who is or who knows people with mental handicaps. I happen to know people who do have mental disabilities and would prefer NOT to have to see that word on my screen in reference to people just because you don't like them, regardless of how you feel about whether or not the term fits. It is offensive. Please delete it or change it to something else.

1936679 Yeah, I think being compared to Nazis and called retards counts as persecution somewhere. Isn't that what we have moderators for? Half of these comments are about the actual issues, but the other half is non-RPers making fun of RPers.
1936680 I've seen it, but given how much RP goes on, never on this scale.

Don't they know Gdocs is the better choice? Hell, I bet those casuals don't even have a D20 dice roller. :ajbemused:

I have no idea what I'm even looking at there, dude. :rainbowhuh:

1936687 It's not offensive, it's just not politically correct. There is a key difference.
