I don't consider myself a very good writer, so don't take anything I say too seriously. As far as the way I write goes, I try to focus on the key events of the story, and then just try to imagine how each character would react and respond to them. For this, I need to have a good idea of the character in my head, and then essentially play them in my head as the events happen. This has literally led me to points where I'm arguing with myself about a line of dialog that I wanted to put into a story, but the character in my head will not let it happen. I just can't naturally steer the story to using it because it's not how the characters would react.

Other than that, use an outside writing tool to proofread. Google docs works pretty good and is free. Hopefully this helps. If you want any more specific help, I can certainly try.
