Dream Volt

Sequels1

T

This story is a sequel to A Fluttery Day: RotE Episode 5

It's a nice enough day to tour Canterlot, and Celestia can't see them about some matter till later so Twilight shows her friends some of the sights. She also runs into her old foal sitter, and her brother finds her to have a few words. Shinning also mentions how busy the guard is today but surely that isn't some hint of a looming crisis, right?

Discord, old son, that was weak; especially by your standards, that was weak. You're going to spend a few centuries being petty about this, aren't you?

Okay, because I feel sorry for you (and that is an amazingly stupid feeling to have, really), I'll give you a clue. There is something in this letter that is completely wrong in every possible way. That's all I'm going to tell you. I pray you enjoy your imprisonment. :ajbemused::yay::pinkiehappy::rainbowlaugh::raritystarry::twilightsmile:

Oh, yes. Yes, that makes sense. That actually explains so much about the similarities between those two pegasi that, even though it isn't canon, it should be. :rainbowdetermined2:

I guess that's why Rainbow was so reluctant to read those books at first - How could it compare to hearing the tale at first hand?

I really wouldn't like to be in Shining Armour's boots right now, oh no! :rainbowlaugh:

Rarity really has a fascination with nobility, doesn't she? I'm not sure if it the glamour, the beauty or a desire to better herself. Of course, the unfortunate thing is that rich does not equate with 'better' most times. Hoity Toity is something of an anomaly if anything.

Fluttershy is beautiful because nature is beautiful and something tells me that it is a beauty that will never fade with the passing of millennia. Such is the fate of those who are the reincarnation of the Mother of the Gods (Gaia was the wife of Uranus, mother to the Titans and Grandmother to the Olympians).

Oops! Applejack on a crusade. Was that the real reason she didn't sell much at the Gala - she didn't have a "Union Approved" ticket? That must burn like the sun in the desert!

Fluttershy is #2 in fashion after Rarity so, yeah, maybe she did mean her. :yay::raritywink:

The Fluttershy effect; no, it isn't a sensible answer but that doesn't matter when you're dealing with the ascending Goddess of Nature.

I don't think Trixie will ever change, even in the face of the apocalypse. I'm sure that should be reassuring but it just comes across as plain annoying. :trixieshiftright:

Shinny

Shining Armor's nickname is normally only spelled with one N... :facehoof:

Like this: Shiny

Great story so far, but you need to find yourself a spellchecker.

So Pinkie's a trained chef, as well as a baker? This could be interesting.... :trixieshiftright:

1463782 Once again it's not a a matter of a spellchecker, but the words a spellchecker can't catch. Also who knew Shinny was a word?

On the other hoof I can't believe I got it wrong every, single, time. :facehoof: Hopefully I got all of them.

Fluttershy is #2 in fashion after Rarity so, yeah, maybe she did mean her.

:pinkiehappy: Yeah, what with the "freaky knowledge of sewing" :ajsmug: she displayed in Suited for Success... Nice callback! :rainbowlaugh:

1461898 Does this mean all the quadrupedal animals will wind up bowing to her like the ponies do to Celestia and Luna? *snerk* :rainbowlaugh:

I smell a buildup to the Season 2 premiere coming...! Nice tie-in!

Well, the Crowning-Moment-of-Awesome-meter for this story just increased by one... :rainbowlaugh: Stitched Parasprites, whodathunkit? ROFL

Oh crud...! :rainbowhuh::rainbowderp::rainbowwild::pinkiesick::fluttercry::twilightoops::raritydespair: Pinkie as the new Avatar of Chaos...?? That's it--everycritter who doesn't like parties might as well go talk to Luna about relocating their addresses to the Moon ASAP...!!

"Oh and one last thing. Since they are now all officially of the members of the court I can send them on ambassadorial missions without prior approval. Just so you know."

Oh, that's what the smirk really was. She was getting around a rule she didn't like by giving us a reward that some ponies may not like. But why does she think she needs us to visit other countries as ambassadors?

Why indeed... The animal hair may be approaching the rotary ventilator even as she speaks...! :twilightoops: :trixieshiftright:

 This is shaping up into something really good, I think. Like the old fable of the turtle and the rabbit, a slow start ceases to matter if you just hold steady. :pinkiehappy:

1463880  It's OK. Typos happen to everypony once in a while--you just have to either be alert when you're reading back over your chapters, or have someone else who can be.

Could be a reference to the S3 opener "The Crystal Empire". I get the impression that Celestia sent the Six up there as her official Troubleshooters to solve the problem for her. It was this new responsibility (as one of the Princesses' champions) that gets Twilight so nervous that she will sing "I Never Expected This". She knows how to be a student; now she's being asked to be an ambassador, a knight and a superhero.

FWIW, I suspect that a major thread of S3 will be the switch from "Slice of Life" to "Adventure" in FiM's stories. The Six have now emerged as major heroes of Equestria and with that position comes responsibilities, duties and expectations. I wonder if we'll get at least one focus episode on each of them addressing how they view their new very public positions.

I never thought I would feel sorry for Discord but being molested by Pinkie Pie must be a strange and terrible new experience for a Chaos God.

Rarity and Tom is the only time I recall that a crackship has become canon, if only in a bizarro distorted version of the canon reality. I wonder if he was a geode; did Rarity ever bother to find out? It would be typical of Discord to give Rarity a real super-sized gem and then distort her perceptions enough that she can't get at it.

The problem with bucking up reality is that you are inviting interlopers from partial quantum probability zones, like self-inserts and other OCs, to come to the party. Discord obviously didn't understand (or possibly was unaware) of the power of MLP fandom and the likelihood that he was essentially wedging open a window in the space-time continuum for a large army to come to his enemies assistance.

Think, Twilight! The whole point of the six episodes to date was to prove to you that magic has little or nothing to do with the traditional unicorn concepts of it. You don't need a horn. Rainbow and Fluttershy make magic with their wings, Pinkie and Applejack with their hooves! Magic is something that is inside, guided by your will, feelings and knowledge. Discord couldn't take that away from you without rewriting a very large part of your biology and synapses. Whilst he is capable of doing something like that, I don't think he's willing - his cruelty simply doesn't allow him to rob his victims of their will and identity.

Interesting - remember that Rarity has already demonstrated an ability to 'default' back to her normal appearance when she uses her fire elemental powers. This establishes that it also restores her personality defaults too! That's going to probably leave Twilight sweating over quill and parchment for a few months trying to work out how it works in terms of orthodox magical theory. However, I think it might be a 'fire' thing.

Interesting - Discord has just inadvertently revealed a weakness: He's a prisoner of his own nature. Because he is chaotic, he has only fractional control of the outcome of his own powers. The outcome will, by necessity, be chaotic and, therefore, be impossible for him to specify more than the general shape of it.

Twilight's realisation that the elements are being restored by interaction with the other aspects of Harmony is also interesting. It works towards my theory from Episode 5 that they are collectively the reincarnation of Gaia, Celestia and Luna's mother. This means that they are stronger united but it also means that they all contain echoes of each other's natures and elements that resist alteration in the others. Wow! You are good at abstract magical theory aren't you? It's little touches like that that make these stories worth the reading!

If you change someone's personality, the bribes you give them have to necessarily change. Either Discord didn't understand this or he literally didn't care. Maybe giving Dash a reward she was no longer capable of appreciating seemed funny. However, once again, it shows how his sadism and his inability to think beyond his need to cause chaos was eventually to be his downfall.

I suspect that Discord massively underestimated the Six's upgraded powers. Maybe, as in the canon "Return of Harmony", he was too arrogant and thought that they were beneath him. Or maybe he didn't know what he was dealing with; after all, he thought Gaia was dead, didn't he?

This really is a fascinating idea. Instead of physically sealing him away, the Elements removed his ability to make chaos. Now... where could that power be sealed away? I don't think that it's Pinkie, I have to say. She already has power enough of her own. If it would have been her, Discord would have attacked her rather than Twilight.

I do think that Rainbow is overestimating the scale of Discord's knowledge. Knowledge is a function of order and and that is against Discord's nature. I'm pretty sure that, beyond some relatively simple tricks, he had relied mostly on his chaos-generating powers. As matters stand I'd say he's probably at Trixie's power level, maybe even lower, given her practised skill at illusion magic. Of course, now he can start to learn the skills he needs to win out in the end. However, something tells me that he will prefer to sulk and thrash futilely in an attempt to recover his true powers, at least for a few centuries. By the time he realises that he has to play the long game to get his powers back, the ascent of the Elements might be complete and he would find himself seriously out-gunned.

So, ennobled and knighted (and given patches on which to establish their own petty states). A fitting reward for the new paladins of Equestria. That said, I'm pretty sure that Rarity is going to be panicking for a few weeks trying to teach her friends 'proper deportment and elocution' as well as create a full wardrobe for them all.

In many ways, putting the power in someone who might be able to wield it is a good idea; it means that Discord has to plan to fight his replacement to get his power back. I wonder...? If I were to choose a pony to be the new Avatar of Chaos, I know who I would chose, a mare whose loyalty, honesty, generosity, kindness and love is already legend in her home-town, even though her chaotic nature often covers it over, and that would leave her hard to corrupt.

Step forward, Derpy Whooves, Mate of the Oncoming Storm, Companion of the Lonely God, Courage of the Cowardly Hero, Goddess of Chaos. For some reason, I can see The Doctor face-hoofing and The Master laughing his fool head off. :derpytongue2:

I wonder if Twilight is ready to realise the implications of this yet. She is Friendship, so her powers grow greater so long as she has more and truer friends. Being the avatar of Magic might also mean that she has no upper limit on her powers. Any kind of magic, even if a unicorn should not be biologically capable of wielding it, should be within her reach, so long as she can conquer her own doubts. Of course, courage is the thing that she gets from her friends, isn't it? :ajsmug::yay::pinkiehappy::rainbowdetermined2::raritywink:

I've got a feeling that there will be no 'Lesson Zero' in this universe. Frankly, Twilight will be too busy and learning too much about Friendship (as an aspect of her own inherit nature) to descend into a panic.

If the Elements continue to increase in power at their current rate, I have a feeling that the Changeling 'invasion' will turn into a rather unpleasant ichor-splattered bug-hunt/massacre.

A great ride! Thanks for sharing and for all your work (which must have been exhausting) creating the coherent theoretical underpinning for all of the Elements' powers and natures.

Here's looking forward to Episode Seven!

(Darn, I wish I could up-thumb this more than once...)

1467376 one word .....genius:derpytongue2:

Now to go back and thumbs up all the stories I read earlier while not logged in

Who the hell is Moonfire? Seriously, there was very little mention of her here and there, but otherwise... nada.

Oh man, as if Pinks was not scary enough. :twilightoops:

So if Twilight becomes even better friends with Luna and Celly, she'll gain the ability to raise the sun and moon?

Twilight! WHY u so OP? :pinkiecrazy:

Heh now that's how you write a fiendship letter. :rainbowlaugh:

5986895 The pony version of an OC created well before Pony. I had to introduce her at some point and really wanted her to meet Discord at his worst, but the story isn't about her so kept it rather short. It's pretty indulgent really, but I did it anyway.
