I really don't get why this story has been marked down so many times. I guess you need to be an egghead (like me or Twilight) to appreciate the magical theory and application being outlined here. It really is a good set of ideas about how their magic works. Maybe you should remove the story elements and submit it to EqD as an essay?

Of course, eidetic memory isn't the same as comprehension. Rainbow Dash can probably parrot every book she's every read but that doesn't mean she can understand them. You seem to realise that difference here by pointing out her ability with mathematics.
