I find this dissertation on cutie marks to be an interesting and fascinating story, even if its scope was only skin deep (pun intended), given how broad the topic of cutie marks is. Multiple cutie marks on the same pony, cutie marks that can change, cutie marks that can be magically acquired AND removed, taboo cutie marks, etc.
But my particular criticism to the story has to fall on the ending, with the possible implication of peer pressure to get tattoos, given that in the immediately preceding scene both Rarity and Applejack are reluctant to the idea, only to then be shown Rarity screaming in pain while being tattooed.
Wait so is this counting Zebra (pretty sure Zecora has a cutie mark) or is it Crystal Ponies/Alicorns as the 4th. Or like the Saddle arabian variants (also apparently there are other species in Farasi with cutie marks too, likw the Abada)

Can confirm, tattoos hurt. Though after a while in the chair, the pain almost becomes a comfort. I sat for a total of like 8 hours for mine over two sessions.

Good point... might've included that if I wasn't a hack and a fraud. However, we know the ponies can all procreate with each other so they're all the same species. I'm going to include the crystal ponies and Saddle Arabians in that, as it suits my narrative! So, despite regional traits, four races.
Sunset might have never met a zebra, or even know they exist. Out of the entire town of Ponyville, not a single individual had until Twilight arrived. Similarly, having fled Equestria before Luna's return, she might not have any knowledge of bat ponies.
This was ironically one of the funniest, if not the most oddly wholesome story I've read thus far. I also find it kinda hilarious that cutie marks are just magical tramp stamps, and in the human world, it's basically the same thing, minus the magic!
Great story, definitely needs a beach party sequel.

Less likely possibility for Sunset, depends how involved she was getting in the day to day with Celestia. (If) she was living in the castle she's almost bound to have run into an ambassador or something at some point. We don't know a ton about her time before her jump through the mirror unless the comics dove further in or something (I only read the season 10 stuff though I hear Cosmos is a really good villain) but especially if it's the "Celestia's surrogate daughter" route a lot of people seem to go for. Also Thestral/Bat ponies are a more likely possibility though, because I'm pretty sure that's a magic thing in-canon, and not just an actual genetic mutation/different tribe
I really enjoyed the idea that the mane 7 would be more interesting in learning and bonding with their counterparts in the other world. What surprised me the most was Flutters dedication to this and they lengths she went to be more connected with pony shy. The thing I wonder and that I felt wasn't really explored is, does it make her feel closer to the other shy?

If it wasn't for Rarijack I'd have picked Flutterdash, given some of the body language in the show. But I can't imagine there'd be two same-sex pairs in such a small group, and it feels like the creators definitely pitched Rarity and Applejack a bit closer.
