The Blue EM2

Glad to be here at last.

Sequels1

E

This story is a sequel to Thomas and Friends: Return to Sodor

It is Christmas 2023, and Sunny and her friends are keen to celebrate. The only problem is they are all required to be in different bits of Britain at different times, which makes planning difficult. What initially seems like a simple solution- travelling between places to experience different traditions- soon turns into a chaotic transport matter as a bad winter rears its ugly head... again.

Loosely based on the Winter Wishday special.

Pipp and Misty appeared in quick succession. "Hello!" Misty said, placing a festive version of Madame Taffytail in front of the camera. "Merry... whatever this is!"

Christmas Misty, it's Christmas. :ajsmug:

"Nope!" Sunny replied. "I've been repeatedly waking up in ponied up mode. Since the battle on Sodor it seems to be happening more often. There's always mountains of glitter as well. Not sure what's causing that."

Sure is odd though. :unsuresweetie:

"Sunny you're slightly flat," Pipp interrupted, without missing a beat. She produced a harmonica and played a note. "That's a D. You were singing in D Major."

She was still singing it the way it should be. :ajbemused:

"Normally it is. It was supposed to be happening in Paignton this year, but their concert hall was damaged in a fire and isn't safe to use. This makes Swanage the first town to host the event twice in a row."

Damn! :pinkiegasp:

My only question so far in this story is who's Steven? Is it a town or someone who'll appear in the story? :applejackconfused: Feeks weird at the same time too as that's the name of my main character in book I'm writing.

great chapter mate keep it up can't wait for the next chapter:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

awesome start mate keep it up:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

1. Who is Christmas Misty?

2. Yup.

3. I am alluding to the fact that in the opening of the Winter Wishday special Sunny is slightly out of tune when singing the carol medley (it was almost certainly an intentional directing decision given Jenna Warren is a trained singer).

4. Indeed.

The Feast of Steven is an archaic name for the Christmas season. St. Stephen's Day is marked in Western Christianity on the 26th December, or Boxing Day to use the secular name.

11766965
1. I was just saying that Misty said Merry but not Merry Christmas.
3. I see

And thx for the Steven explanation.

11766966
1. I was making a grammar joke referencing how British and American writers use commas differently.

3. Indeed.

No problem. Hard to believe it's only 21 days away at time of writing.

11766969
oh...

And yes, 21 days left til Christmas. And while I'd normally be excited, this year for Christmas is gonna be a nightmare for what my family has planned.

11766995
That doesn't sound too good. I presume it involves lots of travelling.

11767141
Not really. My grandma lives 2 hours away from where I live. But traffic there and back is obviously not gonna be pretty.

So far, this is grand so far. And I honestly can't blame Pipp for singing those songs. I can't help but do it myself all the time. I even got a new Christmas CD to listen to this year.

And I see Charles has his own "(insert type engines) don't shunt" philosophy. I guess many engines will have their own thing on that. I mean Farnsworth from The Little Engine that Could believes switching engines are not real engines.

11767545
Given we only have about a month every year to listen to them, it's an entirely understandable reaction to have.

Charles' mindset is a combination of that and Jeremy Clarkson's insistence that officers do not work in many episodes of Top Gear. Whilst the sentiment of not shunting is understandable for an engine like Gordon owing to his long wheelbase, it's absurd in the case of Charles as Class 33s have short wheelbases.

aweome chapter mate keep it up cant wait for the next chapter:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

A steam locomotive had been attached to them to prime the steam heating equipment, and Charles was attached to the other coaches when he heard Sophie being attached to the other end. "Why am I being attached here? And why is Sophie going in front?"

Wait, they still have steam heated equipment!!! I thought just about passenger cars that had that were a thing of the past or had the new modifications to use electricity!?! :applejackconfused:

"These Mk1s lack the required wiring for ETH."

ETH? :unsuresweetie:

"Some Class 33s were fitted with steam heating boilers as the conversion process from steam to electric heating was still underway when they were introduced. This, incidentally, is part of the reason why the position of fireman was maintained- as you can probably see I can't really operate the controls and drive at the same time."

https://m.

"It's the train driver who does the announcements," Zipp replied. "And as I am driving, I do the announcements. Simple as."

Can't argue there. :ajsmug:

"Somehow these aren't the most profound of lyrics," Misty said quietly.

Sure are. :applejackunsure:

Grandma, Figgy is voiced by Ellen-Ray Hennessey-one of only two VAs to return from Friendship is Magic

Huh. I actually didn't know that. :rainbowhuh:

11767724
1. MK1 coach sets in railtour service are often equipped with steam heating, as MK1 coaches are exempt from ETH requirements.

2. Electric Train Heating. It functions very similarly to HEP.

3. Glad to educate.

4. It beats having to yell down the train.

5. Yup.

6. What makes this even more interesting is that an early fantheory speculated Opaline was from the same part of the world as Mistmane owing to the curved horn. Mistmane was, of course, voiced by Hennessey!

11767621
True.

A good point. And there are plenty of tender engines that do switching jobs.

"Zipp!" protested a voice. "I'm the train manager! I do the announcements!"

That’s a reference to Top Gear’s episode with the caravan train, isn’t it?

11767968
Tank engines, for instance, were very rare in the US, as tender locos with short wheelbases were preferred.

11767975
Yes. Yes it is. Though Richard, hilariously, is wrong in his assertion the steward does the announcements; the individuals on a UK passenger service who are permitted to address the passengers over the PA system are the driver and the guard. Stewards were responsible for managing the catering staff on long distance passenger trains, and as such lacked any authority to give instructions to passengers beyond a polite request to let them through.

11768078
That's right. I even have a few OCs that are tender engine switchers.

11768082
Well, the Guard is in charge of the train, so it makes sense why he would be in charge of announcements. Moreover, the driver has to make sure the train is a comfortable ride. Both are in charge of the train.

11768086
1. Indeed.

2. Both are, after all, in charge of safety.

It's points like this that make wonder who carries more random gear on themselves, Izzy or Pipp?

And I honestly had no idea with the fact with how cold weather is near the sea, moreover, this is the first I heard of "Frosty Shivers".

And I caught the tiny bit at the end.

great chapter mate keep it up cant wait for the next chapter:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

Rebecca was soon snorting up the grades on the Falmouth Branch. It was important to keep speeds up on this run, as they had a very long way to go, and not all of it on the relative quiet of the Devon main line. In fact, this trip would take them up part of the West Coast Mainline, which required a right dog's leg as steam locomotives were prohibited from running south of Crewe.

right dog's leg? :applejackconfused:

"There's an old US Army saying; why have one of something when you can have two for double the cost?"

Interesting. :rainbowhuh:

"I made ornaments for you guys as well," Izzy explained. "Twice, in case of sudden games of charades."

Like that's gonna happen again at a time like now. :duck:

As they headed indoors, Alphabittle paused by where they'd left the ornaments, and took a close look at one of them. "Wait. That needlework looks familiar..."

Huh? :derpyderp2:

11768637
Why wouldn't they?

It's a fascinating meteorological phenomenon, no?

Dramatic irony 101.

11769085
1. To describe a route as a 'dog's leg' denotes a difficult journey.

2. Indeed.

3. Always be prepared. Just not scared.

4. The intented implication is that he recognises the ornament as Misty's handiwork.

11769128
Each girl has their own reason for it.
Izzy - for any opportunity to use her craftsmanship to good use or unicycling.
Pipp - To keep herself prettied up for her live streams or just to look fabulous.

Yes. A very good one at that.

To a full extend.

11769211
In the latter case very important given her habit of starting impromptu streams in all sorts of strange places.

"I can barely see a foot in front of my face!" Hitch shouted, as the train flew along the line.

You are driving a spamcan. They're cabs have poor visibility. :ajbemused:

"I'll deal with it later!"

You're so gonna regret it later Hitch. :facehoof:

Another electric rain roared by on the other line, powering into the snowstorm. The train continued to slide along before the station suddenly loomed into view.

Another electric train roared*

Thunder nodded. "But there is a distinct lack of babies, and I doubt they like being sat on."

Ok? :unsuresweetie:

Pipp tapped her sister. "Sunny isn't gonna like this at all."

Nope! :twilightoops:

Misty tapped Izzy. "That was quite the tongue twister."

You can say that again. :applejackunsure:

The two girls dashed down the corridor as Lady Haven smiled. "Helping others in need. The Christmas spirit truly lives in them. Merry Christmas!"

Indeed.

cool chapter mate keep it up cant wait for the next chapter my godsister and I love to drink swiss miss hot chocolate after a hard week at school to boast our morale:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

What an amazing chapter!

But, I have to ask, didn't Rebecca have any sand available?

11769464
1. That they do.

2. Indeed.

3. That would have been quite shocking.

4. It's a play on the expression 'babysitter'.

5. Not at all.

6. That was quite the tongue twister.

7. You can most certainly observe that.

11769549
Or getting covered in mud. Bridlewood really hates for some reason.

11769550
The Light Pacifics do have sanding gear, but it's of minimal use against black ice.

11769666
All the more reason proper de-icing units are needed on the rails.
