The Blue EM2

Glad to be here at last.

Sequels1

E

This story is a sequel to Thomas and Friends: Halloween Havoc

Whilst down in Falmouth for Thanksgiving, Pipp makes a curious discovery not far from Sunny's home. A strange portal in a cave throws the team into a brand new adventure in a strange new place.

But nothing is at it initially seems. What initially seems like a series of random events turns into a race against time to save the magic once and for all.

Inspired by the comics produced for Generation 5 by IDW, with a considerable helping of Thomas and Friends media. Written to mark the 1st anniversary of Thomas and Friends: a New Generation.

Goldie adjusted the controls as the huge object was lifted into place. "They'd have needed to hire a crane in to lift this," she smiled. "And here we are doing it ourselves. Just goes to show that old tech still has a place in the modern world."

Indeed.

Suddenly, the brakes kicked back into life, and Pipp slammed them into emergency. They skidded to a stop in the siding, with only a few inches to speare before hitting the headshunt.

spare*

"No. I don't recall the grade at all."

Strange? :unsuresweetie:

Zipp had arrived as well by that point. "What if it's something to do with the crystals?" she suggested.

Only one way to find out. :fluttershysad:

"The crystals! Somebody's stolen them!"

Shit! :twilightoops:

"Every detective has a deerstalker on hand," Zipp smiled.

Is that what a detective hat is called? :applejackconfused:

Zipp snorted. "Wheel wheel wheel! Seems like somit slippit auf!"

What did she say? :applejackunsure:

great chapter mate keep it up cant wait for the next chapter:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

awesome start mate keep it up:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

1. You said it indeed.

2. Corrected.

3. Indeed. It is a mysterious mystery.

4. Indeed.

5. Yes. But who took them?

6. Deerstalkers are closely associated with Sherlock Holmes, as one of the early illustrated editions of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes depicts him wearing one. Holmes is never desribed as wearing one, however.

7. Roughly translated out of Scots, this means well well well, something slipped off. It's actually a callback to 'Hullo, Twins!', Donald and Douglas' debut story in the Railway Series.

11741976
Thanks for reading. Playing with the comic's plot was quite good fun.

11741978
This opening deserved to be great, seeing as this is the 1st anniversary story.

11742013
Scots. The native language of Scotland is Gallic.

So far, this story is quite amazing!

But, I honestly hope whom the Crystal thief is, isn't who I think it is.

11742164
Glad you're enjoying.

It's not Opaline, if that's what you're worried about.

11742168
No, not Opaline. Not Opaline. I know who the thief was in the comic and I get to tell you, I was far from pleased.

11742171
To avoid spoiling anything, I'll be portraying them very differently to the comic. Much closer to how they were portrayed in their debut, as a matter of fact.

11742123
Got it. Still, people with Scottish accents is one of 2 accents I have trouble understanding. Same goes for French. Which is hard as I watch a youtuber who is from France and has that accent.

11742187
I find diction is also a factor. A person can have a strong accent and still be understandable provided their diction is good.

On the other note, I think the Deerstalker hat was paired with Sherlock Homes more so when The Great Mouse Detective came out since Basil of Baker Street is based on Homes.

But, the interesting thing is, from what I’ve seen, most detectives would most likely wear fedoras. At least they did in the US. As for other detectives in Britain, I’m not sure.

11742201
The equivalent in Britain would be the bowler hat, although fedoras did become popular in the 1950s after being introduced by American servicemen in WW2.

11742217
Huh, and most things depict Dr. Watson sporting a Bowler Hat. Now, this makes me wonder, if Zipp is Homes, then who’d be her Watson? ( I already say it probably wouldn’t be Pipp)

11742223
Given that the third G5 comic pared her with Hitch for an investigation, I'd say Hitch would be the obvious choice. Their combination of analytical observation and knowledge of laws and codes would be ideal for a criminal investigation.

11742271
That is true. Given how her journey was solving a mystery in itself.

11742641
And she spends a fair bit of time in TYT figuring things out.

nice chapter mate keep it up can't wait for the next chapter :pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

"That's rather dependant on a driver, but the next train is supposed to depart at 10:30," Thomas said. "Though with nobody to drive it I suspect it won't be departing at all."

But where is his driver still? :applejackconfused:

The train continued on its journey, and they rattled past the window. Hitch was in the cab of Clarabel, and Sunny was, of course, at the controls. "On our left is Hackenbeck windmill. This regularly appears in promotional material for the North Western Region of British Railways and is significant for being one of Britain's oldest surviving post mills, having been built in 1686."

Wow! :pinkiegasp:

Sunny nodded. "Thank you, Miss Allgood." The group took their seats at a table and sat there for a bit, before their food and drink arrived. Pipp checked the tea. "Served in a teapot!" she said. "I never was much of a fan of filter tea."

drinks*

"Donuts don't work like cheese, Izzy," Pipp said. "If you at one that's out of date you'll be sick for days."

ate one*

The others tuned him out as he continued to talk about cheese at great length.

He sounds like Wallace from Wallace & Grommit. :rainbowlaugh:

Sir Topham Hatt sat down at his desk. "And I thought only Pinkie made references specifically aimed at older readers." He glanced up. "I heard how you six prevented a nasty accident at Ffarquhar, so I want to praise you on a job well done. The truth is that we're short of drivers. Some of them have vanished."

Oh? :rainbowhuh:

"Yes," Sir Topham Hatt replied. "Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity- none of them are responding to their radios. It's left us in a frightful pickle, and is on the verge of causing confusion and delay."

Strange. :unsuresweetie:

"It isn't," Sir Topham Hatt. "But it's the ability to persevere and overcome any odds that helped to make Britain great. Sodor has been through much harder times, and it was the Blitz spirit that saw us through. I have no doubt we'll emerge from this crisis once again, stronger than before." He glanced up. "But that's not why I called you in here. I need more drivers to cover the crisis, and I was wanting to recruit you six."

isn't," said Sir*

This was very nice! I can tell Sunny is overjoyed to finally get to share about Sodor to her friends!

And that bit with Hitch and Cheese was quite a laugh, I lost it when he mentioned Stilton. I'm surprised he hadn't spoken about wensleydale.

And I will say, I'm not surprised Pipp would have some eating issues, given how she's portrayed as being more pludgier than Zipp is. And surprisingly, I know of the term: "elevenses", I heard Sweep say it in Sooty's Grand Adventures.

Moreover, I like how you had Thomas portrayed in push-pull configuration.

And why do I have a sinking feeling that the thief had something to do with the Mane 6 of G4's disappearance?

"Yes," Sir Topham Hatt replied. "Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity- none of them are responding to their radios. It's left us in a frightful pickle, and is on the verge of causing confusion and delay."

Hmm, very suspicious that it is those six specifically...

Perhaps it has something to do with the crystals?

11742957
1. Keep that in mind.

2. Based on a post mill not far from where I grew up.

3. 'food and drink' is correct in this context (given I write using British English).

4. Corrected.

5. As noted above it's a James May reference. Funnily enough, Nick Park selected Wendsleydale cheese at random-but in doing so saved the Wendsleydale Creamery from going bust.

6. Yes.

7. Very odd.

8. Corrected.

11742978
I mean, what Thomas fan wouldn't? I'll admit that's part of the reason the fanbase found Thomas Land so disappointing; they had a perfect chance to bring Sodor to life and blew it.

Glad to see the reference was not missed. Wendsleydale cheese is fairly hard to find outside of Yorkshire; luckily, the creamery that makes it does mail order. Nick Park can be credited with saving part of the cheese industry from collapse.

A recent theory argues that Pipp is an introvert pretending to be an extrovert, hence her hairstyle (which covers part of her face, a common art cue that a person is shy) and her tendancy to hide behind a screen (as an introvert I can relate). As for her body shape, it's refreshingly positive to see nopony mocks her for being...ahem, a bit bigger than some of her peers.

Once more, you demonstrate how well versed you are in British culture.

Just paying homage to Dalby's original illustrations.

Keep it at the back of your mind.

11743003
Hey. Sudrian! Nice to hear from you again; it's been a while.

Keep it in your mind...it may be important later.

11743054
I wouldn't think it'd be easy to replicate it.

My Wallace and Gromit DVD featured a documentary that talked about that. And I have tried Wensleydale, quite good.

I could kinda see that. And honestly, with how many people talk about her height, I don't think they'd notice Pipp is rather pudgy in some spots unless they took a really good look.

I admire British culture very much. And I don't wanna go by Stereotypical stuff. Like that ridiculous bad teeth thing.

I gotcha.

Of course.

11743326
Cars Land, in my opinion, remains the gold standard for bringing an animated world to life.

That sounds great. I usually try to source Tillamook cheese where I can.

That's rather my point; she has a non-standard body shape, and it would appear that unrealistic beauty standards do not exist in Equestria. In that sense, Pipp can be read as an positive portrayal of an independent single woman comfortable in her own skin.

The bad teeth stereotype partly derives from the British love of tea, but is also a side effect of an era before basic mouth hygiene was common. With toothbrushes and toothpaste in easy supply, it's largely a non-issue. Besides, without Britain where would Hollywood look to for actors to play villains? (Yes, I am aware plenty of villains in media are Americans by nationality.)

11743432
I’ll have to visit it someday.

That’s cool.

Sounds about right, I think it would also apply when Pipp is human or an anthro pegasus.

From what I saw, Mt. Dew is the biggest tooth-decaying drink all around. And I think Coffee stains teeth a bit more than Tea. But I am honestly annoyed with that stereotype.

True that, and I know plenty of British Actors who do the roles of villains splendidly. Both LA and Animated.

11743443
Well worth the price of admission, methinks.

Very true.

I mean, in my school days I basically made a career out of playing villains. Curiously, actors who often play villains are apparently often very nice people when the cameras aren't rolling.

11743455
I’d reckon so.

Wow!

Yeah, that was the experience I had when meeting Tirek’s VA.

11743492
Mark Acheson's a great guy by all accounts. Same with John de Lancie; his dedication to the fandom is nothing short of remarkable.

11743539
Aye, while I may not be the biggest Discord fan, I do find John De Lance’s acting very well done. (Funny thing he played another jokester-type character. This being a Yak in a Sack from The Angry Beavers)

And I got to meet the Actress behind the Second Sister from Jedi: Fallen Order, and she was a very nice gal too.

11743550
de Lancie based his performance on the Star Trek character of Q, who he also played. Funnily enough, the writers were looking for a soundalike, assuming he wouldn't be interested, but then discovered the original actor happened to be available!

great chapter mate keep it up cant wait for the next chapter:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

After a short journey in a company lorry, the six friends were dropped off at a set of large sheds built around a turntable. The shed in question had six berths, of which all were currently occupied, and was built of yellow brick with the berths framed by doors painted green. The structure looked quite attractive and well built.

I'm guessing in this story Tidmoth she'd never got rebuilt with a 7th birth added? :unsuresweetie:

"That's because an engine as splendid as me needs to keep up appearances, after all."

Some things never change. :ajsmug:

Gordon looked over. "It's not a tough decision, though I have to confess, it's hard to find a better engine for the express as no other engine can handle fifteen coaches over Marron's Bank unnasisted."

Wait 15!?! Doesn't he normally pull like 4 or even up to 7 in the tv show!?!? :applejackconfused:

Gordon fumed. "Oh, the indignity."

You had it coming. :rainbowlaugh:

"Engines your size frequently did stopping work in the 1960s," Edward pointed out.

stop*

A workman hopped into the control booth for the turntable and rotated it to Gordon's line. Zipp opened the regulator- too much. Sparks flew from the rails and steam flew into the air as Gordon's wheels slipped.

This'll definitely take a while to do. :duck:

Zipp looked over to see Sir Topham Hatt walking over to Gordon's cab. He looked very cross.

Uh oh... :twilightoops:

A few minutes later, the station master arrived at the siding with urgent news. "Gordon and his train are stuck and can't get over the hill. Can you help, please?"

:facehoof:

Before long, hordes of children were pouring across the platform, clearly excited to see their pop idol. Pipp was more than happy to return the love. "Hello, Pippsqueaks!" she called. "I'll admit I wasn't entirely expecting to be on Sodor today, but none of that matters! I've got a new song, specially for you! Wanna hear it?"

Shouldn't figured there'd be some on Sodor. :applejackunsure:

Sunny shook her head. "Some mysteries are perhaps best left unanswered, Thomas."

Yep. :raritywink:

11743872
1. Nope. In the Railway Series (which this draws from) Tidmouth has six berths.

2. Nope.

3. The A1/A3 Pacifics were built to handle up to 15 coaches. The only reason Gordon is depicted pulling 7 or 8 is because of budget limitations.

4. Yup.

5. Stopping work, as in a stopping passenger train.

6. It's also a callback to The Retold Adventures.

7.

8. Some things never change.

9. Given Pipp appears to have a huge fanbase, it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

10. Eeyup.

11743880
I'm guessing in this timeline Emily doesn't exist? Also, crap, I should've figured when it came to the coaches you'd reference how it is irl for those pacifics.

11743906
Emily was introduced in More Tales from Sodor, which is not canon to this timeline. And yes, I was drawing on the historical locomotives.
