Princess Twilight Sparkle has a vast knowledge of different magics, including magical afflictions, and so she's come to expect, when the truly unusual things crop up, to find letters from Equestria's hospitals showing up at the castle. And every time, she's dropped everything to help one of her subjects.

Luster Dawn is taking her first hospital trip with her mentor, to visit a sick pegasus filly. It's Nightmare Night, and the princess is bringing the celebration to the filly, alongside her weekly dose of a potion used to treat her illness. Luster doesn't know what precisely she's sick with, or why Princess Twilight even wants Luster to come at all, but she's assured her it's not contagious, or at least there's no risk of unicorns or alicorns catching it.

The longer she's around the filly, however, the more this disease looks familiar. But the book she saw it in was folklore. Just an old pony tale. There's no such thing as bat ponies.

Cute story regarding batponies. Also like the little worldbuilding you did there with batpony disease.

There's no such thing as bat ponies.

Is there?

Then what were the ponies pulling Luna's chariot in Luna Eclipsed?

Ordinary pegasi in armour, as shown in The Cutie Re-Mark Part 2 in the Nightmare Moon timeline:

In defense of the author.

Does it really matter? I mean if in this story Fluttershy never used her "stare", when we know that in the show she did. Then it follows that in this story bat ponies [could be] so rare that they might as well be non-existent. So bat ponies we saw in Luna Eclipsed episode, in this story, could be equally changed to pegasi. Pegasi that Luna changed, with an illusion, to resemble the mythical bat ponies.

And just like then, she would make for absolute certain that everything would be fine.

Until one day, a certain pony appears

Very good beginning, I've already read your story and thought I'd go back and leave you a comment or two.

All of those are OCs, not characters from the show. In the show there are seemingly no real batponies, just pegasi in armour.

Nice story about batponies. I prefer stories that simply include them as a seperate tribe.

This was fun. A nice bit of world building.

[bat ponies intensify!]

This story also contains an important message: if you come into physical contact with a bat, seek medical advice immediately, even if you're sure it hasn't bitten or scratched you.

This is fascinating.

I read the juice scene, and in my hubris, all I could think was ‘Straws are for wimps.’

Lovely blend of world building and Twilight proving herself a capable and compassionate ruler. Luster is such a useful perspective in capturing this new generation of Equestria. (No, Sunny, not you. You have your own narrative strengths.)

Thank you for this. On to more of your backlog!

Too bad, for a moment I thought you were going to deconstruct this whole 'Twi's grooming Luster to succeed her' nonsense.
Apparently not.
