As for the age, they are a little bit older than the main fillies are in the actual show.
Given the the personalities of the CMC in the show, It wasn't too hard to think of these characters to be as they are in this story.

Aside from the occasional longer wording , I think the characters are fine. Maybe a bit more mature than me, but that's not saying much.
I was poking at the mind control part. In every continuum I know of, mind control is a high tier of magic, far beyond the realm of any normal magic user and definitely out of range of a young girl's capability.
(The want it need it incident doesn't count because that's causing attraction, and then the ponies act on their own; as opposed to controlling the pony herself and forcing her to do something).
