After trying to find a peaceful solution to the fruit bat infestation for Applejack's apple orchard, Fluttershy enlists the help of Twilight to conjure a spell. However, the spell backfired and the desire of the fruit bats that makes them crave nothing but the sweet juicy nectar of apples leached onto Fluttershy's being, transforming her into Flutterbat.
This is a first-person view into the world through the eyes of Flutterbat at the world that is trying to cope with her loss. Specifically, Flutterbat still possesses traces of the kindness of her former self, and she sees it as her duty to check in on her mourning friends to see how they are dealing with their grief. What she sees is rather distressing.

Yeah, but you've got to remember: She sees Flutterbat and not Fluttershy. To everyone, Fluttershy was never fixed after Twilight's spell rebounded on her, and so she is considered dead. And so, Rarity only sees a monster that used to be her friend.
How would you react seeing a hybrid version of your dead best friend appearing at your window in the dead of night? Not much differently, I assume.
That ending.... was deep. And so sad
I wish this had a second chapter or sequel where everything checks out in the end.

You didn’t build up enough for that payoff. Is Fluttershy dead? No. Flutterbat herself says so. The identity is altered but “Fluttershy = dead” is an informed attribute where part of the story conflicts with another part and your words.
Perhaps if you doubled the word count but presently we have Fluttershy that is suffering an identity crisis and the others being a dick about it. Great story but parts fail due to length
This was a great story. Sad that she had to leave Ponyville for the sake of her friends.
