It's a bit of both. The venom she drugs him with is a potent afrodisaic, that removes his inhibitions. She's not pulling on the strings like a puppet master. My apologies for making it unclear. The thought was the drug makes him more like an animal in heat, less of a person with inhibitions and second thoughts. He frankly doesn't need the drug to have sex with her, but her sex drive isn't something easily handled without it. Get where I'm going with that?

In all seriousness, I think Rarity, despite being friendly with Cadence, would just love the drama of a sordid affair with royalty. I she can't marry the prince she can be his "secret" mistress.

All I can say is, wow. This is some REALLY steamy stuff. Yeah, loved Shining's reflections on certain things before the hanky-panky began. And, yeah, the reflection on the start of this mutual arrangement makes a great deal of sense. Plus, the fact that Chrysalis's use of the venom in this case merely removed his inhibitions and amped up his stamina enough to survive her sex drive is a really good detail.
While, in general, well written start to this AU Anthro story series.
Definitely looking forward to seeing what woman is next.
Possible one for later on (maybe not the next one, but still a possible future one): Trixie arrives in the Crystal Empire to perform for Flurry Heart's birthday party. After the party, Trixie invites Shining backstage for a - more private and mature demonstration of her magic. So, yeah, it's pretty easy to guess where it goes from there.
Another possible future one: Sunset Shimmer was Shining Armor's ex-girlfriend before he fell in love with Cadance (before Sunset left through the mirror portal), Cadance finds out about this (at a point AFTER Sunset graduates from Canterlot High and possibly even graduates from college) and invites Sunset to the Crystal Empire to clear the air with Shining. The air-clearing ends up reaching "steamy threesome" levels.
Okay, sorry about that. Let my mind run away with me for a bit.
New Chapter/ sequel in the works, featuring Shining and some castle staff. Chrysalis will return..

Shining Armor is not a Prince Regent. 'Regent' means 'ruling on behalf of someone else'. If he's ruling with Cadance then he's a Prince Regnant. If he's just there to sire her children, he's a Prince Consort.
