Against her will(mostly), Starlight agrees to protect Ponyville when Twilight and her other five friends are busy saving the entire world. The unicorn only agreed to this startling position because she actually believed that she wouldn't be doing any saving immediately.
She didn't think villains could pop out of nowhere, but they did, much to her chagrin. It's up to her to defeat them one by one, with her faithful butler--er, friend Spike and Robin...I mean, Trixie at her side.

One chapter is rarely enough to tell one way or another how it's going to turn out, but this definitely has the potential to be a really fun story. I look forward to seeing where it goes.

Starlight's absurdly talented, no doubt, but the whole "She's stronger than Twilight" mindset seems to just be another typical case of the Versus Topic Curse: People tend to cherry pick a convenient character statement or only look at the end result, ignoring context from what took place before and during the fight that can change the implications of those statements/results. Pretty much everything about that fight was set up beforehand to make Twilight's power and skill meaningless (and that's ignoring the unintentional side effect of putting her through a constant stream of physical and emotional stress due to her experiences in the alternate timelines). The fact that Twilight was able to physically and magically stalemate Starlight despite all of her disadvantages going in says a lot.

Yeah, I was a little wary about her abilities compared to Twilight and all, but this story pits her not very far ahead of her. In a rematch, I'd say Twilight would win after a bloody brawl or a bruise-y brawl.

Great work on this chapter! I can already tell this is going to be a good series. If I could suggest any villain... Maybe Dimentio from Super Paper Mario? If you don't know who he is, he's basically a magical jester who secretly wants to destroy the world. He makes lots of metaphors (for example, during battle he "strikes like an unseen dodgeball from an echoing gymnasium"), says "ciao" a lot and tends to avoid fighting himself. He much prefers getting others to fight for him, so it wouldn't be surprising to get Starlight to face a brainwashed Trixie or Spike, or even Twilight. When he does fight, though, he goes into this alternate dimension he made called Dimension D. It's supposed to multiply his power by 256, but it actually multiplies everyone's power by 256. ...If you did know who he was, I'm sorry.

Probably one of the most entertaining reads I've had in a while. I give you the uppest of thumbs, my friend!
As for suggestions, I kind of have a weird one: Majora's Mask. Specifically, the scenario I had in mind was Trixie and Starlight getting into a fight of some kind, causing Trixie to run off in a state of emotional distress, which the Mask preys on to call out to her and coerce her to put it on. Then, Starlight has to fight her friend, as well as whatever nightmare spawn Majora summons, to save the day.
Or, you know, whatever you want.
It's your story, man. Either way, you need to have the Happy Mask Salesman appear somewhere along the way; he's just such a fun, creepy bastard!
Another thought I had was Aku from Samurai Jack. No prompt for this one, he's just the greatest villain of all time and would be awesome to see!
Having a classic magic-VS-technology matchup would be pretty fun, too. Don't know who could really fit the bill on that one, but I'm sure there's someone.
