Miller Minus

Cherish the thought.

T

The following shorts are meant to accompany my longer stories. Reading these isn't necessary to understand the original stories, and if I've done my job right, then the reverse is also true. But I certainly recommend reading both.

Whoa... :rainbowderp:

I just... How do I even...

Wow. Pure, unadulterated catharsis. Bravo! :raritystarry:

Hoooooly shit Miller.
Thank you for the timely reminder of why you are one of my absolute favourite authors.
Because hoooooooooooly shit.

”Next time you see him, he’ll be short a few tee-“

“I killed him, Foghorn,” she declared, rather nonchalantly and inconsequentially. My pen stopped writing and the silence robbed the room from us. The words thrust my heart down a hole. It made me wonder how deep it had fallen compared to hers. I shook my head dumbly and spoke:

This. I am really happy this was both addressed and not dwelt on for too long.

“We still have our budget?” She asked in shock.

“Turnpike held onto it. He’s a pretty good treasurer.”

She chortled in bewilderment.

“He had a knife to his friggin’ neck.”

“Yeah, but if he lost it, you woulda been upset with him.”

Also this. You already had me sold with the previous bit, but this made it even better. :duck:

Not sure about the whole "horn player" thing at the end though. What's up with that? :derpytongue2:

Here we go - from Stage of Discovery:

Concordia took the opportunity to have a look at their cutie marks. She saw agriculture, literature and other casual themes on the earth ponies. Foghorn had a horn – a musical horn – for his.

Perhaps she wonders why he joined the field knights in the first place.

Loved it, especially the little "twist" at the end, despite the number of times I felt that the descriptions of Minerva's gear, fighting style, etc. did not make sense (it's my own fault, though, since I study HEMA). :raritywink:

I also like the vagueness of Icetooth's story. Aside from being a bandit, and that reveal at the end, we really don't know much about who he is and what he wants. Minerva's reluctance to fight, let alone use deadly force, is also a neat element of the story.

I guess the only part that kinda bugged me was when they argued about Celestia. It felt like I suddenly dropped into a forum argument about "Tyrant Celestia", and the story felt like it was mocking those who believed in "Tyrant Celestia" by putting them in the shoes of the villain (either that, or it makes those who think Celestia is innocent seem "naive and destructive", such as Minerva and what she ends up having to do...)

Overall, I'm impressed. Nice job! :duck:

Poor mare. Achingly truthful portrait of things we don't want to admit to thinking. I hope she doesn't beat herself up for too long.

6690530 Y'know, we might actually see her again. Briefly, though.

Thanks for reading!

It was a little difficult for me to follow along. But does this mean that White Wish will be okay? Or at least, does this mean that she's still alive?

6902133 Yes to your second question. The first question is a little tougher to answer... Hopefully we'll be seeing her again soon.

Thanks for reading :moustache:

I like how the almost comical tone in the beginning, reminiscent of lighthearted scenes from mafia movies and TV series, suddenly takes a rather dark turn. Harriet's backstory is really nicely fleshed out here, and you even namedrop Minerva. Curious about how that will end up. If Concordia's anger is any indication, I'm assuming it did not go well.

Overall, this is not too long, not too short, and Harriet's relationship with Moose Tracks is interesting. Could have given him a better name though. Then again, who am I to complain when I have a character called "Muddy Water"? :raritywink:
