I've seen this idea done before, but as a fan of Sonic and MLP: FiM, I wanted to give it a go myself.
This, basically, is the story of Sonic Generations, but crossed over with the MLP:FiM universe, with Spike and the Main Six taking the place of Classic Sonic and Classic Tails with other MLP characters also appearing (most aren't listed to prevent spoilers). Except for Green Hill, there will be different areas explored, as well as pony rivals and different era bosses. So while it will have its similarities to the console and 3DS versions of the actual game, it will definitely have its differences too.
Also, in case anyone was wondering, there will NOT be any shipping in this story. At the very least, no crossover shippings. No SonicxRD, TailsxTwilight, TailsxFluttershy, or anything like that. If there is any shipping at all, it will only be between characters from the same universe. And the only humans in this story are Dr. Eggman and the ones that appear in the "Sonic Unleashed" level.

Hey everyone! I know this particular crossover isn't very popular, considering what I've seen on the few others on this site. However, I've had an idea like this for a while now and I want to know if I can do a good StHxMLP:FiM crossover or if I'm doomed to end up in that same pit of failure.
Anyway, this chapter is just the intro, setting things up. The event that Twilight and Spike talk about will be referenced again later on. And I know about the whole issue with Derpy, but as long as there's a version of "The Last Roundup" with the original scene out there, like in "The Friendship Express" DVD, I'm going to go with that instead of the altered version. If there are any complaints, I can change her name, but I still want her to be in this story.
I think that's about it. I'm interested in hearing what you think, as long as it's meaningful.
Before I read this, may I just say that your image could use a lot of work. It's like whoever made it didn't even attempt to make it look good; even MS Paint lets you paste things without having that kind of artifacting.

I'm terribly sorry about the long wait for this chapter, everybody. Most of my classes last week had exams, so I had to spend some time studying for them. Not to mention this turned out to be a long chapter. I hope the length makes up for how late it is.
Now, a few notes for this chapter. The radar that Tails builds looks basically like a Nintendo 3DS. I got the idea from Issue 219 of the Archie StH series, which featured a "Sonic Colors" adaptation. In the adaptation, the device Tails used to translate what Yacker was saying looks nothing like his Miles Electronic from the games.
The numbers that Tails' radar displays are the original North American release dates for Sonic 1, 2, and 3.
The move Sonic and Tails perform to escape the ice cave is the Rolling Combo from the upcoming "Sonic 4: Episode 2".
Sonic's explanation for his shoes is based off of "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog". AoStH described them as friction-proof and joked that Sonic will burn his feet if he tries to run without them.

Tails facing off against Metal Sonic in Stardust Speedway is a reference to his inclusion as a playable character in the digital re-release of "Sonic CD".

Although, from the title, I was hoping Sonic and Rainbow Dash would race both Metal Sonic and Gilda together like a tag-team race or 2 vs. 2 or something. But this works out well, cause it shows that this story just ain't just about Sonic & RD kicking ass/flank, it's everybody/everypony fighting for what's right and restoring both their worlds to normal together as one complete team.
If I may ask a question: If this were an actual anime OVA, what japanese opening & closing themes would you give this? The Sonic X japanese themes, or something esle that has that "racing beat"? I can imagion a TV Sized version of "Super Sonic Racing" being a closing theme.

Anyways, keep up the good work. I've been a fan of Sonic for a long time, and never seen a good Sonic/MLP crossover as good as this one. There was one or two on Fanfiction.net that were interesting, but I quickly lost interest. But this keeps me going. After watching the walkthrough of the Sonic Generations game (I have only a SuperNES & PS2), I would love to see how this crossover plays differently from the offical game story.

An anime opening and closing theme, huh? Well... I guess the Japanese opening "Sonic Drive" would work as the opening and either "Cosmic Eternity" or a TV-sized version of "Super Sonic Racing" would make a good closing theme.
Trixie will definitely make an appearance as one of the rivals later on. I was also thinking of having Iron Will appear, but I'll give the rest of them some thought as well. Also, as an early spoiler, the boss in the next chapter is going to be a MLP villain.

Anyways, those seem like good choices, but for an opening and closing theme, I was thinking something along the lines of "Hikari" by Koji Wada from Digimon Savers as an opening theme, or some other anime theme that has that adveture-like feel to it. IDK really, I'm just telling what I feel, I'm sure there's an opening theme out there for this story somewhere that fits. This one I was just guessing.
As for the closing theme, I still think a TV sized version of "Super Sonic Racing" would seem nice as both Sonic and Dash are "super-sonic racers" in a way.

I am REALLY sorry about the long wait for this chapter. It's no excuse, but I kept getting slapped in the face while I was trying to write this, particularly by school and a brief cold. I would've had this up sooner, but... you know, the whole server thing... I hope this chapter makes up somewhat for the long wait. Summer break will be starting in a few weeks, so I should hopefully have fewer heavy things on my mind for at least a few weeks.

Like it's mentioned in the story, the Boss Gate looks like the corridor in Canterlot Castle rather than the Boss Gate in the actual game.
Sonic claiming to not know for a fact that Eggman's real name is Robotnik is a reference to Eggman's Sonic Channel profile, which doesn't give his full name. And I do call him "Robotnik" at times, in case you were wondering.
Sonic's comment about traveling to Earth from the Moon is a reference to "The Moon Zone" from "Sonic Advance".
The crab-like creatures that Nightmare Moon brings to life were inspired by the Gen. V Pokémon, Dwebble.
Applejack using Twilight like a gatling gun was inspired by Pinkie Pie doing the same thing in one of the previews for the season 2 finale, "A Canterlot Wedding".

*Lost World (Knuckles could come back to help out in a temple excursion worthy of Daring Do)
*Twinkle Park (something a little more lighthearted after the gritty Metropolis Zone and freezing Ice Cap Zone, and those fun house mirrors may not be as innocent as they look...)

Of those three, Windy Valley would definitely the one I'd pick, seeing as it would be an excellent match for both Tails's and Rainbow Dash's skill sets. Additionally, seeing as the actual stage was right near Tail's workshop in the game, perhaps the Tornado could make an appearance. I wonder how Twilight would react to a giant chunk of metal flying through the sky...

Having Windy Valley be a team up level with Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash along with Sonic and Tails could be a way for them to clear up the air on that moment and finally give out the answer of why Rainbow Dash never did ask Scootaloo to help out.
In a way it could be harsh of Rainbow to admit that Scootaloo can't fly, but only for her to hurt their "bond" and also it could be a moment where both Sonic and Tails could teach the two Peagi a thing or two about idolize a pony and how to truly be a friend to pony. It could be a moment for the two of them to strengthen their bonds together.
Plus, it would be interesting to see Sonic and Tails recall some of their own solo adventures and how much their partnership/friendship really mean to each other.

I do get what you're trying to say. I just think the challenge with Windy Valley is going to be the whole three areas thing. You know, going from the valley itself into a tornado and then up to a bunch of tracks and pieces of land floating in the sky. It's great in the game, obviously, but talking about it and explaining it might be kind of hard.

Then let me try to help you out...
Let's say that the gang find a portal near Fluttershy's cottage and the Everfree Forest, they also find a stoned version of Zecora.
Still, because of their recent battle with Nightmare Moon, Twilight and Applejack sit this one out a bit. Seeing that this could be her chance to work with her idol, Scootaloo volunteers herself into action, with Sonic and Tails encouraging her. Reluctantly Rainbow Dash agrees, as long as she sticks with them.
They enter Windy valley which seems simple enough, along the brief way Sonic ask Dashie about her connection to Scootaloo and she makes some comment on how the little filly looks up her in a way.
While Tails and Scootaloo hang back and let the elder speedsters take point, Tails speaks to Scootaloo a bit and they try to bond, with Scootaoo telling Tails about the other Cutie Mark Crusaders and Tails telling Scootaloo not to worry about not flying and tells her on how Sonic taught him that while flying is great, the journey of using one's speed is better.
Soon they reach the Hurricane moment and Sonic takes the lead of leading them out with quick speed, given the power of the hurricane is a bit too much for even Dashie to fly out.
When they reach the third part of the level, Sonic tries to teaches Scootaloo a thing or two about Speed, while Rainbow Dash and Tails fly ahead of them.
Soon they reach the end and find Fluttershy turned to stone along with Angel Bunny and Cream and Cheese.
And that's how I would have done the level a bit.
I mean yeah it would be a bit rush but that's the thing when you're dealing with speedsters, they love things fast a bit to enjoy the scenery around them.

Also, if you are going to make Shadow a boss, please make him fight Sonic only because he wants to make sure that Sonic is ready for the Time Eater instead of simply prove that he is stronger like he did in the original game (which doesn't match his personality at all), and after his defeat, he gives Sonic his Chaos Emerald (or just some random Chaos Emerald he found, since his green Chaos Emerald is in the castle ruins for no apparent reason)

The green Chaos Emerald was in the castle ruins because both versions of the game list it as the first Emerald that's collected with the violet Chaos Emerald being second. And I agree; Shadow did seem a little darker than normal in the game.
Sorry about the long wait for this chapter. Between finals, moving out of my dorm, and just getting back from a mini vacation, I've been kind of busy. And since both Lost World and Windy Valley had a lot of storytelling potential and I couldn't stand to disappoint anyone, I had to have them both here. I hope that's okay with everybody. And be sure to point out any mistakes you see; I've been working on this for hours and I'm sure my proofreading skills have dwindled since I started.
The Twinkle Park idea I originally had wasn't as good an idea. The only really noteworthy scene I had in mind involved the house of mirrors Amy went through in her version of the level. Sonic and Tails would have seen their classic selves in the mirror and the ponies and Spike would have seen their G1 counterparts instead of their normal reflection (which could have led to a joke about Twilight's mother looking similar to G1 Twilight).

Knuckles following Tank is meant to be a reference to the ending of the Sonic OVA/Movie. You know, that scene at the end where everybody is watching the tortoise instead of paying attention to Robotnik/Eggman.
The first part of Lost World is based off of how the temple appeared in "Sonic X" while the rest of it is based on the actual temple from "Sonic Adventure".
Windy Valley has elements of both "Sonic Adventure" and "Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games" in it. The saucers the characters use are based off the discs used in the latter's "Dream Discus" event.
Twilight using a book to attack is a reference to her fighting style in the fangame "My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic".
Hope I didn't hint at too much with the Shadowbolts here...
The time travel scene is obviously based off of the cutscenes that play prior to the Perfect Chaos fight in "Sonic Adventure".
I hope I got Fluttershy down correctly. I was trying to capture how she reacted to meeting Spike in the first episode here, but I may have gone a little overboard here.

I have to say, you surprised me in this chapter. I mean I didn't think you could pull off two different Sonic Adventure levels in one chapter, but you proved me wrong.
And you had specific moments of bonding between the characters in this chapter to boot. I mean Applejack and Knuckles are sort of alike in some ways.

Also, great flashback to the end of Sonic Adventure as well as another mentioning of Chaos. Something tells me he may make an appearance in the physical form in this storyline of yours, am I right ?

The character interaction is top-notch, worthy of being made into an actual animated episode or movie cut scene for a game. I totally love how you got Applejack and Knuckles to get along, and I adore how Tails gave Scootaloo advice, the same for Sonic with Rainbow Dash.
And Fluttershy's reaction at the end of the chapter... I didn't really see that coming until I figured, "well, she did react to Spike like that the first time they meet, so yeah, that works!" And it worked beautifully! She reaction was PRICELESS!
For future chapters, I guess you already have this in mind, but please have Rarity team up with Rouge! They be prefect!
As for Pinkie Pie, I have no idea what to do with her. Maybe she be better off with Charmy Bee? =3 Cause somehow, those two seem like the only logical choice, since Charmy is just as hyper as Pinkie is! LOL!

As for Shadow and Silver...hmmm....
I'm got sure about them at all at the moment. But I do have suggestion: After fighting with them, Shadow and Silver should join the team - just to make it a bit different than the actual game, as they didn't show up to help until the very end (If I remember correctly).
I have another suggestion: have Trixie join forces with Shadow and be two vs two with Sonic and Twilight. That would be a fun idea, as I see Trixie being the "Shadow" of the pony group, when comparing the two casts. Although, I think Gilda would have been a better choice as the speeding bad-ass.
Also, for when getting back Rarity and Rouge, have the bosses for that stage be the Diamond Dogs. Or better yet, after Rarity and Rouge are rescued, have them team up to fight the Diamond Dogs. That seems to sound right, IMO.
Anyways, I hope my suggestions help you in writing future chapters. I may not have good ideas all the time, but at least I try.

I'm not telling you how to write your story because you are doing a GREAT job so far, but by letting out Sonic 06, you are ignoring some good story elements
Sure Sonic 06's events were erased, but games such as sonic rush adventure, sonic colors (ds) and sonic generations hints that the sonic 06's events are cannon... just not very good cannon.
Back to the point, I always imagined that you could only pick flame core as the setting and basically, this concept write itself in a good way: Sonic and the mane 6 arrive in a burning wasteland, a subplot could be that they are trying to solve the mystery of how they could arrive there, sonic and his friends could have weird deja vu (but they are not gonna remember it), facing fire monsters, blaze getting a feeling she has been there and they all leave with questions unanswered... this writes itself as a kick-ass story
I therefore asks you to reconcider sonic 06 in your story, because I really love this story so far and you are an amazing writer.
