"And that's how we like to do it on the murder scene."

Raindrops "Killjoy" Merryweather is many things: a borderline vigilante, reckless bounty hunter, and probably a horrible pony. She's not, however, a hero. But when a close friend is murdered, Raindrops takes it upon herself to avenge his death. She isn't going to let the law, the cops, or her friends get in her way.

Raindrops isn't a hero: she wasn't one before, and she surely won't be one now. But she'd rather be a villain than be nobody at all.

This story is a spinoff/extension of PonyJosiah13's Ponyville Noire series. Knowledge of that story isn't necessary but I recommend you read it anyways.

Thanks to Seriff Pilcrow, Silent Whisper, Vis a Viscera, hawthornbunny, and Mykola for prereading various parts.

Thanks to EverfreePony for once again editing and prereading.

There are two problems in Ponyville today.

First problem: yaks just declared war on Equestria. Second problem: Strawberry Sunrise needs to make room in her drinks cabinet.

Sometimes problems cancel each other out.

Fiddlesticks is tired of falling and faded colors.

My entry for PonyFest Online 3.0's Iron Author event, refitted for the May Pairing 2020 Contest.

Written in two hours with the themes 'hippogriff culture, a hobby/career in the arts, and a rare fruit' (although my connections to these were sparse at best). Top ten finalist. Check out the other entries here!

Detective Rarity dwells in the shadows and much that higher society dare not touch. Imagine her surprise when Diamond Tiara of all people approaches her with a missing persons case: her friend, Silver Spoon, and her mother, Spoiled Rich. Rarity wonders why come to her instead of the police, but she won't turn down the money.

It's an unusual case, and it only gets stranger...

The story starts with the second chapter, with an outline of the "first" chapter linked.

An exquisite corpse is a form of collaborative art where each participant only knows about part of the whole work, and must complete their part with limited context. In this case, each writer only had access to the previous chapter, resulting in the story getting confused, yet still moving forward undeterred. The exception is me having full context when helping out the others.

Participating writers were me, Undome Tinwe, Nonchalant, Lingo, WilloIllo, Maddie the Baddie / Tache, The Red Parade, trAce, and TGM.

Almost everyone in Equestria has been mysteriously transported to a fake simulation world where everyone is closely monitored for the sake of entertainment. Because even popular side characters are not safe from prying eyes, it's up to a group of obscure, unappreciated background characters to fly under the radar and try to save their fellow Equestrians. Strawberry Sunrise was just a struggling farmer, until mysterious messages from another world caused her to question the world around her. Before she knew it, she had stumbled into a massive conspiracy which none of Equestria's usual heroes could do anything about. Only someone unexpected and seemingly insignificant can avoid detection, and unfortunately for Strawberry Sunrise, Lilly Valley, and Fiery Fricket, that means the burden of saving Equestria falls on them. But how will they stand the pressure of saving the world when they can barely stand each other?

This story is (very) loosely inspired by both The Matrix and The Truman Show, hence the title and tagging it as a crossover, though it contains characters from neither of those movies. This is also very much an experiment which I will update whenever I feel like it, or approximately once a weekish. And since this is a very versatile concept with a lot of possibilities, I'm also open to suggestions!

What if Twilight Sparkle had never discovered The Elements of Harmony? What if, instead, the defeat of Nightmare Moon had been left in the hooves of an entirely different group of characters? If the fate of Equestria had fallen on the haunches of six familiar ponies from the background of The Mane Six's lives, how would these secondary characters handle the spotlight?
