Vinyl and Octavia have a tradition, a tradition that they have never let slip. But, this year, things long left unsaid finally find their way to the surface.

This is a sequel to my other story, A Tale of Two Mares. Read that one first.
Anyhow, Vinyl Scratch and her trusty new wife Octavia are living in San Franciscolt, trying to make a decent living, raise a foal (or two), and not drive each other the neighbors crazy.
Some old favourites, and some ponies that are notorious for being awful, will come to make their lives a little easier(?) and some new ponies as well, for better or for worse.

Oh my Celestia, I just made that sound like the most boring story ever. You'll just have to read the first one.

It's a quiet walk home for two mares after their individual nights of music and noise. All they plan to do is go home and sleep. Little do they know, they will unexpectedly run into each other and have an interesting talk between old friends. Vinyl Scratch was always an odd one, seemingly hating classical music yet always willing to go with Lyra and Bonbon with a little convincing. One evening they see Octavia perform, and the songs are more than familiar to Vinyl. Realizing that Octavia is playing songs that Vinyl herself had composed when she was younger. Over time and through many trials with her new friends, Octavia discovers that there's a little more to Vinyl than she initially thought.

Thorax is a junior processor, class Q, and has lived his entire life in the hive, yet he dreams of things bigger. Grander. Much more important than watching pH levels in vats all day. Wouldn't you know it, his application to the espionage services gets accepted, too! Maybe he really is going places!
Except he nearly flunked the exam, and knows nothing of the outside world. Regardless, Queen Chrysalis charges him with a very important mission: Spying on the inhabitants of Ponyville, especially Twilight Sparkle.
Nothing, of course, goes right after that.

It's been three months since Vinyl was forced to move out of Octavia's house.
The cellist couldn't handle the constant arguments that were filling their daily lives together.
Octavia's friends and family support her decision to get away from the DJ by offering all the help she needs.... even a bit too much....

Octavia still gets angry whenever Vinyl Scratch, or anything related to her (like her wub-powered dishwasher) is ever mentioned in a conversation. She wants her friends and family to stop pestering her about it for that part of her life is done.....

Tensions run high for Octavia as she and Vinyl make the long journey from Ponyville to meet her parents in Trottingham. But Vinyl soon regrets coming, as she finds herself juggling Octavia’s desire for them all to get along, with her own ever-growing anger towards Octavia’s father.
