Retired Special Agent Sweetie Drops has been living in Ponyville as Bon Bon for just over ten years now, and aside from the occasional monster attack or magical mishap, life has been peaceful. She's happily married and has a successful career running a candy shop. Something has been preventing her from properly appreciating the quiet life, however, and that thing's name is Vinyl Scratch. Countless hours of surveillance has convinced Bon Bon of one fact, and it's that whatever Vinyl Scratch is, it's not a pony. Today is the day she gets to the bottom of the mystery that has haunted for her so long: What exactly is Vinyl Scratch, and what does she want with Octavia Melody?

Tempest Shadow is bored. She only knows how to fight, but it's a skill which Equestria doesn't need at the moment. So, she's just been getting by with odd jobs and black, unsweetened coffee.

Till one day, after finishing a really odd job, she discovers a little passion that she didn't even knew she had.

Vinyl's all but dropped out, but somehow she manages to hang on to a passing grade. Most of her motivation has to do with a certain Octavia, her best friend (inexplicably) and the fact that it's the best place to hang out with her. Vinyl loves seeing her at school and chilling while they do homeowork, but sometimes she just wants to hang out on her own terms, you know? Do something that's not, well, kinda lame. Or something. PBR isn't lame, right? Well, it is, but Vinyl is destitute and the convenience store down the street sells them at a bit for a pint... All's good that starts good. She's pretty sure that's how that goes.

In Ponyville, Equestria's capital of friendship and insanity, this is all the more true.

Octavia and Vinyl have been dating for months, but neither has had a chance to introduce their significant other to their families. Vinyl always dodges the issue, but when Octavia is insistent, they have a fight. This leaves Vinyl with no other option than to have Octavia over to meet her parents.

Maybe she should have told Octavia who she really was?

The public is no stranger to the talents of Miss Octavia--especially amongst the upper crust--and yet her name has been silent amongst the musical circles lately.

Though happy for her love's roaring success, Octavia sits at home alone, with her cello lying untouched for months. And tonight, Vinyl is later than usual in getting home--no doubt due to her success at becoming her own musician.

Tonight, Octavia is going to open the special cabinet.

Tonight? It may be a dream come true for Vinyl, lost in the beat and bass, but...for Octavia?...There is only the sound of silence.

This story is (most likely) canon in regards to the Peregrine Fanonverse.

My first go at a VinylTavia story. I had originally thought to do a much bigger story--origin tale, development of the friendship and relationship, try and get my own take on the characters and their personalities...but inspiration struck, and here we are.

I'll still write the big story and I'm almost certain this will be canon in regards to it. So, this is a snapshot--events have transpired before this and will transpire afterwards. Please do keep that in mind.

I wanted this to have a much sadder ending, even though I kind of hated myself for it, heh. But lo and behold I wrote a not-so-bad one after all. Ugh. Curse my inner idealism and desire for happy (or at least hopeful) endings. Curse you subconscious, I say!
