While still adjusting to life at the Crystal Brighthouse with her new friends, Misty accidentally makes a very interesting discovery in an old broom closet. It's Senor Butterscotch, a fake unicorn that Izzy made long ago.

Naturally, Misty's curiosity gets the better of her, especially since she has her own fake friend. She decides to ask her fellow unicorn why she made Senor Butterscotch.

Izzy is more than happy to tell the tale of how Senor Butterscotch came to be. But it's a lot sadder than Misty might be expecting.

Sent by Opaline, Misty Brightdawn must infiltrate Maretime Palace for her next mission. If she succeeds, she'll be granted her life's purpose, a cutie mark. But as Misty closes on her goal, priorities change. After entering Maretime Palace as a bodyguard for Princess Sunny Starscout, Misty starts to enjoy a certain part of the job more than she thought she might. Will Misty follow through with her mission, or heed a new call?

One stormy night, Izzy is terrified by thunder and lightning. The girls try to comfort and calm her, but the only one who manages to save Izzy from her fears is Hitch.

Opaline has barely survived her defeat. With the last ounce of magic in her body, she disguises herself as a Pegasus and plots to infiltrate the Mane 6 and steal the unity crystals. Unsuspectingly, Hitch runs into her before she can finish her plans, and begins to form a romantic bond with her.

Now that Sunny Starscout and her friends - Izzy Moonbow, Hitch Trailblazer, Zipp Storm, Pipp Petals and Sonic the Hedgehog - have restored the magic all across Equestria, they're all living together in Maretime Bay, having all kind of fun adventures. With the second cutie mark crystal down and knowing what they are facing in regards to Misty's biological mother and Opaline's adopted daughter, Paradise Moonray, the ponies buckle down on research on where the third crystal might be, where Sunny finds some very interesting pages in her father's journal about some sort of creatures called the Smurfs. And in the blink of an eye, the ponies are sent to the same village of the Smurfs for another Unity Quest.

The evil wizard Gargamel as sought out the tiny blue creatures for many years, and finally, he succeeds in chasing the little blue people, plus their pony friends, from their village and through a magic portal created by the very rare Blue Moon-- which transports them to Manhattan and into the life of ad executive Patrick Winslow. Only three apples high and lost in the Big Apple, Sunny and her pony friends must help the Smurfs get back to their world before Gargamel tracks them down and uses the Smurfs' essence to seize control of the world.

But the real question is... will our pony pals aid their friends in returning home? Or will all their efforts be for naught?

Thankfully, he'll count with help from himself... literally.

With aid from her new friends, Misty learns to appreciate an old tradition of Winter Wishday: a song and accompanying waltz from ancient pony history to celebrate holiday merriment.

Chronology:

Occurs simultaneously as Make Your Mark Chapter 3: a Winter Wishday Special. At whichever time before episode 12, but after episode 9.

Misty blindly follows Opaline's rule. She couldn't refuse, because she had nowhere else to go. No family, no real friends. No one knew who she was or where she came from, besides Opaline.

She feels shame for all the things she has done, from her lies to her outright theft. But everypony has a price. Opaline has promised her a cutie mark for her unconditional servitude. Opaline is an Alicorn, one of the most powerful creatures to ever exist, her rise to ruler is inevitable.

After helping Opaline, Misty realizes her mistakes and regrets them. Perhaps even a cowardly mare like Misty can stop whatever evil plan Opaline has in store.
