Sunshine Smiles enjoys the promise of a new day, the rosy reds of dawn, the moment when the new sun's light kisses Equestria.

Moonlight Raven prefers the thoughtful solitude of the night, the soft shadows of moonlight and the peaceful silence of a slumbering city.

It was supposed to be a simple stargazing trip up to the mountains. But what Moondancer discovers hidden in the moonlight may change her life forever…

...or may, at least, wear too much eyeliner.

For on this night of nights, there lurks a pony of deep darkness: Moonlight Raven, whose adoration of the strange and mystical not only rivals Moondancer's respect of science and reason, but is physically preventing its pursuit.

Can these lovers of the night find common ground, or are they fated to annoy each other to death?

This story is a sequel to Mistress of the Dark

This is also a sequel to That one strange story about a donkey., but the description below is all you need if you haven't read either prequel.

Moondancer and Moonlight Raven have become unlikely friends, despite one being as preoccupied with science as the other is with mysticism. But when an artifact that blurs the line between magic and technology unleashes one of the more unique threats Canterlot has ever faced, the two must set their differences aside (and seek the help of a certain Doctor) to save the day… provided they don’t annoy each other to death first.

This was my entry for Ocalhoun's Big 250k contest, and obviously riffs on That one strange story about a donkey. I feel obliged to note that certain details of Eugene's character are not intended to insult or trivialize others; they're just part of the hand his character was dealt. There are forces beyond the boundaries of our world, a fact that Roseate Grimsbane is fully aware of. A powerful unicorn witch, Roseate has to function as a teacher and citizen of the town of Muleport, while concealing the otherworldly powers given to her.

The fact that her husband is an Alien Intelligence from beyond the Fifth Veil, doesn't make this a simple task.

This is a Comment Driven Story, where you can speak to Roseate using an enchanted mirror, an eldritch artifact that allows for communication with those beyond the Fifth Veil (You), so feel free to ask her questions and perhaps even give her some advice when the time comes. But please keep it clean.

So how can she get rid of them, and ensure nopony else ever bothers her again?

Uh... preferably without murder? Sheesh! As if she needed to be haunted by any more disgruntled murder victims...

The broody mare, having taken an opportunistic trail into a cushy life at Canterlot, struggles to understand what she wants out of her life. Both welcome and unwelcome, her sister's big re-entrance into it sparks deep, meaningful and inscrutable soul searching.

...if Sunshine would give her some peace and quiet first.
