Octavia Philharmonica is a desperate mare. Faced with the possibility of being evicted from her apartment for inability to pay rent she decides to take a temporary job at a local nightclub. Octavia may be a gifted musician, but that doesn't mean she always liked her instrument. After all, what filly grows up wanting to play a huge contrabass?

Octavia is in jail and waiting to be bailed out. The good news is she has a friend who is willing to come bail her out. The bad news is that the prim and proper Octavia is not going to get out without a little teasing.

Vinyl has been keeping a rather large secret from her fans. It's something she's had to deal with since birth. She keeps it a secret because she doesn't want to be viewed differently. She just wants to feel normal, even if its just for those few hours shes on stage. If they knew... she might have to give that up.

When one of Equestria's most popular cellists appears at Twilight's birthday party, it's just another gig for Octavia, but a shock for Twilight and the rest of the party-goers.
