> Blind Passion > by DustyPages > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Show Time > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ugh, what time is it. I can feel the sun on my coat so its morning… Vinyl reached her hoof out and smacked her alarm clock “The time is… Twelve… Thirty-Three P.M…” *Yawn* Ight, The shows not till 9, guess I’ll grab some food and check in with Pinkie Grabbing her shades off the nightstand, where she always kept them, she made her way out the door and headed to sugar cube corner. It was a straight path to the little bakery, and Vinyl, having lived in Ponyville for years, knew the path well. Navigating the streets of Ponyville was always easy as there was rarely any traffic. Small towns were nice like that. The smell of sugar and baked goods grew stronger the closer she got to shop. Once there Vinyl pushed open the door, the small bell announcing her entry. "HEY there Vinyl! Great to see you! You’re up earlier the usual *giggle*" "Heh yeah, I just wanted to come by and ask how the stage is. You got it all ready for tonight?" "You know it! You haven't gone by to check it out yet!? We've got all KINDS of cool stuff, lasers... smoke... fireworks, you gotta go look!" "Heh nah... I like to be surprised, I'm sure you set up one hay of a stage Pinks. Hey mind grabbing me a couple banana nut muffins? I gotta meet up with Tavi before tonight." "You betcha! Here ya go!" Pinkie grabbed the paper bag in her mouth and with a quick flick of the neck tossed it to the DJ. "Wa- huh?" Thinking quickly Vinyl used her magic as a net, catching whatever was in its web, and then bringing it all together. Woo... that was close... “Thanks Pinks, cacha later- uff!" Without noticing, Vinyl had turned around to leave only to walk right into Mr.Rich "Hey! Watch where you are going, you filthy raver harlot!" "Hey... sorry man...” she said, rubbing her muzzle “I didn't see you there..." "Didn't see me here?! What are you... blind? Just get out of my way. I'm a very busy stallion... or can you not see that either..." "Hey... I said sorry man... geez..." Vinyl made her way out the door, her good mood shattered. What was that guy’s problem...? I didn't mean to run into him... ugh! It's not fair! No I couldn't see you, yes I wish I could take a look at the stage, I'm sorry but yes, I AM blind!... wait... BUCK what block am I on! Vinyl was so caught up in her thoughts she forgot to count how many blocks she's walked. She felt she was somewhere between 3 and 4 but that didn't help. She didn't want to go walking into Berry's house by accident again... "Ughh! I give up!” Vinyl admitted with defeat. She sat down hard letting the bag of muffins fall to the ground. Tears forming in the corners of her eyes "I just… I give up... what kind of lame mare can't even walk down the street." "Lame mare...? You wouldn't happen to be describing a certain world famous DJ as such would you?" "Tavi?" Octavia didn't respond, but rather only embraced Vinyl in a tight hug. "Damn it... I'm sorry Tavi... I just... it's not fair!" "Shh I know..." Octavia said comfortingly, as she stroked Vinyl’s mane. "Come on, let's get back home.” The two made their way one more block and into the house they shared. Once there they made their way to the back porch. The nice weather made an ideal setting for an afternoon meal. Octavia took a second to appreciate the clear blue skies, the green grass in which the fillies played in, and the colorful birds that flew overhead. Vinyl took a deep breath, the crisp autumn smell graced her nostrils, the warm sun heated her coat, a soothing contrast to the cool air, and the sounds of fillies playing and birds chirping relaxed the once upset DJ. The two just sat in silence, appreciating the day. “Vinyl… why do you keep it a secret?” “Keep what a secret?” Octavia glared at the DJ. She knew Vinyl couldn’t see it, but they have known each other long enough she was sure Vinyl knew she was doing it. “You know what… Why don’t you let ponies know about your blindness?” Vinyl let out a sigh, her ears flattened against her head as she ‘looked’ away from Octavia. “Because… I don’t want pony’s sympathy. And I want to know that I am where I am not because I’m a good ‘blind’ DJ, I just want to be known as a good DJ.” “But Vinyl, you could be an inspiration to all the other blind ponies out there! And I can see how this charade affects you. You can’t keep this up forever…” “I know, alright? Just… I’m not ready… not yet. I just want to walk up on stage and do my thing.” “Alright… but this discussion isn’t over.” The two ate their meals in mostly silence as they enjoyed the evening. The show was to start in a few hours and so, their appreciation of the afternoon was cut short. The stage wasn’t too far away but Octavia took the lead. The two stuck close to one another, making a flawless entrance simple. The show was about ready to start. Vinyl had spent most of the time back stage psyching herself up. “Good luck Vinyl, I know you’re going to do great.” Octavia kissed Vinyl on the cheek and sat as she watched the DJ make her way to the set. Vinyl had set up her decks the before the venue opened, so she knew exactly where they were. Additionally she laid out a textured mat so she knew exactly where to stand. Once on the stage she could feel the energy. The crowd roared with excitement. She reached her magic out and started her turn tables. In that moment everything else disappeared. For the next few hours the night was hers. She could feel the melodies; her mind could practically view the piano roll and waves scroll along in front of her. And in those moments she was normal. More than normal. She was envied, looked up at, not down upon. People didn’t feel sorry for her, the appreciated her! But would that stop if they knew? Would they pity her? No. No more what ifs. Tavi is right. They need to know. I need to know. The track was reaching its end and Vinyl picked up the mic, fading the music to a low repetitive beat “What’s up Ponyville!” The crowd cheered as expected “Listen up fillies and colts. There’s been some speculation as to what’s under these glasses, so how about I show you all what’s really behind these things…” At this the crowd went wild. Seeing the DJ take off her glasses… nopony ever expected that to happen during the show. Back stage Octavia looked out at her DJ, pride and joy filling her heart as she watched the events unfold in front of her. “At a girl…” she whispered. “Alright then… here it goes…” Vinyl closed her eyes and took a deep breath, placing the shades on the table in front of her. Then, after a second to build up her nerve, opened her eyes. Her red, opaque, eyes. The response from the crowd was a mix of gasps and cheers. Vinyl just stood there, looking out over the crowd. “That’s right every pony… I’m blind… I never told anyone because I didn’t want to be defined by it. I’m sorry. I just didn’t want to be the best ‘blind’ DJ out there… I wanted to be… the best damn DJ this side of Equestria! So who’s ready to keep this party going!” The crowd cheered once more, this time even louder than before. They were cheers of excitement, support, and joy. Vinyl had no idea how this was going to affect her future, but she didn’t care because for the first time she could perform on stage, and didn’t have to pretend she was something she wasn’t, just to feel normal.
