Fancy Pants is Canterlot's number one citizen, but no one is exactly sure why - not that it matters, the elite only care about the 'who'. Most ponies are oblivious to the true nature of Fancy Pants' station - Luna's top covert agent, an unsung hero of his nation. This is the story of Fancy Pants, On Their Majesty's Secret Service, following the events of "Sweet and Elite".

Update 1/13/2016: I have revised some of the dialogue, particularly Princess Luna's. Specifically, I removed my pseudo-olde English crap to lend more consistency to her voice throughout.

Rarity doesn't like stallions a lot, because whenever she starts dating them, they do horrible things to her. But there's one who catches her eye.

While other ponies in Twilight's life have something special about them, Twilight is just a regular old unicorn. She certainly isn't special like Princess Cadence. Sure, her foalsitter always tells her she's special, but there is no objective logic behind this reasoning. And the upcoming Summer Sun Celebration might be fun, but it certainly can't help. How could somepony, proving she's the most special pony in all of Equestria, help Twilight find her place in life?

This story is a purely fluffy head-canon to connect the uncertain Twilight seen in the Canterlot Wedding flashback with the one seen in Cutie Mark Chronicles. It is not that serious, but I think it's nice.

If someone doesn't get it, think of Pinkie's hair being used as a cannon. That was the purpose of this story.

Fancy Pants' place in Canterlot's social hierarchy gives him certain obligations. One of these is the hosting of a number of balls, dinner parties and so on. Tonight he will be putting on a small, intimate "At Home" affair for just a few guests. Sadly, Jet Set and Upper Crust will be among their number. Before all that, though, Fancy Pants and his faithful butler, Silver Cloud, need to make the final preparations.

Spike's dreams of Rarity are shattered, and at the worst possible time, for his friends will need him to make it through their greatest crisis.

Inspired by the United Kingdom entry to the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, "Love Will Set You Free" by Engelbert Humperdinck. From the second chapter onward, different songs serve as the inspiration, so check the comments for the links.

The streets of Canterlot are beautiful and regretfully empty at night. However, when an incident occurs in the ancient city, ponies begin to doubt it is the cold of night that keeps ponies indoors. Mister Fancypants, city renowned gentlecolt and celebrity, and Pip Squeak, an ambitious young gentlecolt in training, go to investigate the mystery. Learning that some pony tales are best left shrouded in the infiniteness of the night.

A visit to Trottingham quickly turns deadly when a murder occurs during the opening performance of Private's friend Moongale. Everypony is willing to blame the mysterious phantom for the murder but Private is otherwised convinced. With the help of Twilight, Rarity and Fancypants Private hopes to solve the mystery of the Phantom.

Not everything is as it appears.

Being constantly asked to care for one’s little sister would try anypony’s patience, even a soul as generous as Rarity. But are her parents’ requests an example of selfishness, or a different kind of generosity?
