1000 years after Nightmare Moon came to be and Princes Celestia was banished to the sun. The ponies live in perpetual darkness, the changelings have a strong grip on Canterlot and Nightmare Moon and Chrysalis rule side by side over pony and changeling kind.

Chrysalis is hungry, and so is her brood. Even after sacrificing half her forces to the other, they would not be able to hold out in their current home any longer. It was time to move. There were two things that Chrysalis wanted from her new hive once they moved in. First, they had to have a good source of food nearby. And second, to get revenge on Twilight Sparkle. Why Twilight? Because she was the one who realised she was fake of course.

Even if it means pretending to be an idiotic pony, her brood must be fed first. Her children must not be left to starve. Revenge can come later.

But it will come.

Wrote this after getting inspiration from a contest to write a fic that involves Chrysalis being happy and remembering an old deviantart comic. I'm sure someone else has likely written about this same thing, but here's my spin on it.

Dust rolled over the wastelands as Celestia’s charge hung high in the sky. The landscape was a fiery red, to match the heat that bore down upon it, and barren of all flora, except the occasional tumbleweed that would roll by after a warm gust of wind. It was a mountainous terrain, filled with valleys and plateaus. It was serene, it was peaceful, but most importantly, it was away from any of those disgusting ponies.

This desert was known far and wide as the Changeling Wastelands, but to Chrysalis, it was known only as Home.

The failed plans of Queen Chrysalis have lead her hive to an all time low. Flung into a desolate region by the power of Cadence and Shining Armour's spell, Queen Chrysalis falls into a brooding sadness. She she is tired of being queen and sets out on her own. Determined to leave behind all the problems of the past and get as far away from her incompetent underlings as possible. Seeing their queen so down her remaining drones and workers try their best to cheer her up. But thinking isn't their strong point, so their efforts lead to a number interesting failures.
