The story of Chrysalis, starting with her upbringing by the land's rulers and onwards. Her fall, her attack, and perhaps a few stories unknown to most.

It's been several months since King Sombra was defeated. Since then, Shining Armor and Princess Cadence have been presiding over the Crystal Kingdom, and quite happily so. However, a message arrives one day from Princess Celestia requesting Shining Armor to come back to Canterlot as soon as possible.

On arrival, he was informed of the problem immediately: there've been reports in the castle of a strange being roaming the hallways and bedrooms. Objects and guards have begun to disappear, and there have been sounds coming from the walls. Princess Celestia called upon Shining Armor because of one detail common across all eye-witness reports; even though the only thing anypony ever caught of it was a glimpse, they all reported it to be covered in a familiar form of black chitin...

My first fanfiction, all criticism welcome.

The war was over and done with. No pony seemed to realize that there was very little preventing the Changelings from attacking once more. However, immediately after her defeat, Chrysalis finds out exactly why it would be unwise to attempt another invasion of Equestria.

Queen Chrysalis had seen first hand the power of the Elements of Harmony, so it was only natural that she attempted to create her own. However she failed to grasp what it actually took to be one with Harmony, no matter. She took her six daughters and cherished them, not as a feat of her power, but as an actual family she didn't know she could have. The six acted like the other Changelings, feasting upon love, devouring the emotions to fill themselves. They all have a part of the Original six with in them. Queen Chrysalis didn't think that would be a problem, that is.. until Changeling Fluttershy found Ponyville. She has been gone for nearly a month now, and her sisters are worried. So they nominate Changeling Dash to go forth and locate their lost sister. When Dash finds her will all be set right in the family, or will everything she knows crash down around her as Fluttershy seemingly abandons her family in pursuit of her new found friendship?

Chrysalis hungers, and she has captured her next meal. Unfortunately for her prey, the Queen of the Changelings enjoys playing with her food...

Resplendent, gifted, sublime; these words have become synonymous with Equestria's newest and brightest star. When this beauteous manifestation of all ponies' desires touches down on Canterlot, a new era of pop culture rises. But nopony seems to know anything about her, besides the evidence of her talent and enigmatic nature.

Chrysalis hopes to keep things that way.

Faux Pas: War Engineer of Chrysalis' Hive, a personal advisor to the Queen and one of the select few allowed to think freely.

Military genius, master strategist in both offense and defense, mastermind of the Canterlot raid.

Of course he got captured.

For his actions during the raid on Equestria's capital, he is put on trial and judged by a court out for his blood. The odds are stacked against him, and there is hardly any doubt that his days are numbered.

But changelings are nothing, if not masters of deception. Faux's got his own plans for the trial.

A/N: My submission for the fourth Author's Prompt, which is about, you guessed it: being on trial. It's a little darker than my usual fare, and I'm not too sure about the ending. Feedback is appreciated, as the story hasn't been officially submitted to the prompt yet.

19/12 Edit: Woop! Judges loved it, offered suggestions. It has been rewritten with their suggestions in mind.
Some changes:
-actual trial is more two-sided. Both parties have a fair point.
-fight that breaks out during the trial is longer.
-Celestia is made more believable in general (I hope, it's really hard in this sort of story).

A changeling without the ability to morph is often of little use beyond hive worker. But a changeling that can go unseen entirely is another matter. Some would say such a specimen is too dangerous to keep around.

The explosion is over. The wedding is salvaged. Canterlot is back to normal.

And one, single, insignificant Changeling thinks about just how well everything went.
