It's only been a few moons since Spike moved to Ponyville, and the settled zone hasn't quite gotten used to having a dragon around, any more than his sister has become accustomed to managing all the duties of a small town library. So while she sorts out late fee notices, he's expected to work the front desk and speak to patrons. Ponies who don't know how to talk to him. Ponies who seem to be having a hard time even looking at him. So when Twilight finally sends him to collect a book from a truly unresponsive patron, it's almost a relief.

Except that the pony isn't there. Will never be there again.

And just about nopony seems to care if she was ever there at all.

No one ever wants to fight for the Rebels during reenactments of battles from the Equestrian Civil War; they're the bad guys, and they always lose. When Spike is placed on the Rebel side yet again so that Twilight can continue to win, he enlists the help of Starlight Glimmer and several thousand other ponies in launching a protracted reenactment conflict which will finally allow him to prove his worth and triumph over Twilight and the rest of his friends. This story is complete with enough Civil War humor to make Fredricksburg look like Sharpsburg.

Ballpoint Smudge has one job. It's not an easy one, but it's one he's determined to do to the best of his ability. The only problem is that as soon as he meets Twilight Sparkle, everything he's ever learned about princesses goes flying out of the window. He was expecting her to be regal, haughty and bossy.
