Twisted Spare, while studying a book of myths, comes across a terrible prophesy: the ancient evil of Queen Husk, once sealed inside Queen Chrysalis’s heart by the Elements of Unity, is predicted to emerge as a twin to an unloved Goddess—on the date of the coming Change Carnival! Despite her student's worries, the Queen sends Twisted and her assistant, Gaze the cockatrice, out to the hamlet of Fangville, where she is to oversee the preparations of the Carnival.

Where she will meet five certain Changelings that will change her life her forever…

Basically this story is a mix between Castle Mane-ia and Bats!, but with a dark and interesting twist. Join Twilight and her friends as they brave the thousand-year-old castle and unearth its ancient mysteries while escaping a sinister, unknown threat. Will the ponies be able to escape the clutches of darkness? Or will they be morphed into a shadow of their former selves?

Emerald is the typical Changeling Hatchling; curious, friendly, loving, and full of mischief. She wants to be important in the Swarm, but when she can't take the role she wants to play, she decides to leave. A choice that starts to bring up strange memories... Memories of playing outside with ponies....

Life is full of surprises. That is a known fact. However, you always expect some kind of minor surprise, like your train arriving a little too late, or your ice-cream having vanilla taste rather than strawberry. But sometimes, life will give you surprises you could never predict. For Fluttershy, it was three little foals. But not her own foals, or even orphans. Three little foals that used to be her and her friends' most fearsome and dreaded foes.

Queen Chrysalis and Princess Jade are worried. Equestria, and the planet Sol, are about to be plunged into a chaos the likes of which have not been seen since the War of the Sun and the Moon almost a thousand years ago. The problem is, the changelings are the only ones who know it is coming. The second problem is, every other race despises the changelings, viewing them as a lesser race. So Chrysalis and her sister hatch a desperate plan: To infiltrate the rankings of Equestria and gain their trust, so that the ponies might once again trust the Peacekeepers of old. Should Princess Jade fail... everything will be plunged into darkness and madness.

Applejack and Pinkie Pie don't mind looking up to see Fluttershy flying in the sky,
or knowing that Rainbow Dash can rest on soft, fluffy, comfortable pillows while they can't,
or seeing bright, flashing lights that blind and burn their eyes when Twilight perform spells,
or knowing that Rarity can carry things and teleport without lifting a hoof while THEY need to lift THEIR hooves to do that.
Nope, they don't mind knowing that they can't do those things. Not one bit.

But when Discord get's rid of their friend's wings and horns before they head into a maze, and he doesn't take ANYTHING away from them, and their friends freak out, knowing they can't do those things now.
The two earth ponies start realizing some things.
Some very, VERY, VERY interesting things.

After the changelings' failed invasion of Canterlot, Twilight tries to soothe some of Ponyville's rampant paranoia by casting a spell to prove there are no imposters hiding in the town. But her spell leaves her in an alien body, facing a mob of angry ponies who just don't believe her when she says she is Twilight Sparkle.

Or, at least, she was Twilight Sparkle, anyway...
