This story is a sequel to Aegis of the Hive

Natural selection. It is the byword of every changeling queen who has ever lived. The chief resource that has always curbed the hives' growth used to be love. Now though, with Queen Twilight Sparkle's bloodline capable of producing love on their own, the old guard of changeling morality has seen fit to acquire this ability for the next generation before removing all of their future royal daughters' competitors.

Some queens are far closer to this goal than others.

After thousands of years of ruling over Equestria and the umpteen amount of changes in social structure over that time, Celestia and Luna discover that they do not understand their subjects as well as they used to. After all, it's been several millennia since they were like every other average pony.

However, that's about to change when an eavesdropping Discord comes up with a "brilliant" idea.

How will the lives of the two sisters change? Will the lives of their new personas "Color Craft" and "Lyrical Rhapsody" be better than their old ones? Will the friends they meet along the way be too good to leave? And most importantly, will Discord ever be pretty?! No, probably not.

The changeling, being able to tap into that power at will, has been drafted to help fight these monsters when they appear...

However, for a dedicated martial artist, defeating monsters is easy. For a changeling, raising a child is a much greater challenge. And building a meaningful relationship? Harder still...

Only a week after the failed invasion, and desperate for love, she resorts to begging in the streets for hugs... and ends up adopted by the end of the day. However, there are those who see her, not as a person, or even a changeling, but as a pawn in a devious plot, one that could ruin her foster parents...

But Ling is nowhere near as defenseless as she seems...

Originally a one-shot written during a very trying time, but many people asked for a continuation. You can read the first chapter by itself if you wish, and that may even be advisable, but I still hope that you'll enjoy the rest.
