Velvet Sparkle and her family are relaxing away from the hustle and intrigue of Canterlot, when her foster grand-foal falls ill. To help pass the time and comfort the filly, Velvet recounts the story of her younger years. It is a tale filled with loss and heart-ache, vengeance and redemption, hatred and love, and a small filly, lost in a land vastly different from Equestria, that just wanted to go home. A tale whose origins were formed before the founding of Equestria itself, and the struggle that birthed the great nation.

It is the story of how Velvet Sparkle met the Queen in Stone.

A Myths and Birthrights side story.

Some history is lost through negligence or the whims of fate. Some is obfuscated on purpose, the terrible events kept from the lessons taught to young ponies. Daring Do knows perhaps better than most that much of what Equestrians are taught in school is a carefully tailored half-truth, key facts and events shrouded by the passage of time and Celestia's loving hoof, leaving many more questions then there are answers. When Daring Do receives an odd package, one such question will be answered. A question asked many times over the years: Why do unicorns dream but once a year?

A Myths and Birthrights prequel.

This story is a sequel to Substitute

A great evil is destroyed and its wards are so too. But now a fragment of that evil is on the loose and is unchecked.

Between an awakened seal threatening to soak up Equestria's magic, a long-dormant thorn now budding, and changes to once well-understood rules, the final pieces of a partially solved puzzle are in place and are ready to be filled in.

The greatest trials may produce the biggest revelations, transform the tightest bonds, and perhaps even lead to salvation. The cost, however, is first the breaking of everything.

Feedback - Substitute - Divergence

Important Notice: Blood is Thicker takes place before Sunset. Meanwhile, Reluctant Reunions takes place AFTER Sunset.

Why are these together? I honestly do not remember, but I suspect it's too late to fix that now. Sorry. ^^;;

Blood is Thicker:

Twilight Sparkle receives a letter out of the blue from her mother. She has left her the ages-old task of keeping their family tree updated, and hints to it being incomplete. Will she be able to discover this missing relative, or will she fail as her mother did?

"Reluctant Reunions":

Trixie assures you, no matter WHAT that infernal Twilight Sparkle says, she is NOT the Great and Powerful Trixie's sister, and that mare with her is NOT Trixie's mother!

... And most certainly of all, Trixie is not starving to death or down on her luck! She is the chosen protege of the greatest magician the world has ever know! There is no WAY that Trixie could ever be like that. None!

These works take place in the 'Sunset' universe
