Who would you want to see in a ponyfic documentary? · 12:27am Mar 13th, 2013

I've been talking with someone who's in the planning stages of putting together a fan-produced, professional-quality documentary about pony fanfiction. He was hoping to get some feedback or suggestions on authors people would like to see interviewed, so he could try to get in touch with them and see if they'd be interested in participating.

So, if you'd be so kind, in the comments list two ponyfic authors you'd like to see interviewed - one that's more 'popular' or 'well-known', and one less so. Obviously no guarantees about who'd actually get invited/included in the project, but the organizer'd like to try to get a mix of well-known and lesser-known authors that people would be interested in.

I guess for popular, Sergeant Sprinkles. He seems to me the most real out of any of the 'popular' brony writers.

It's a little mean to label someone as 'not popular'. I guess Rather Homely.

BR

Well known? I'd like to see Wanderer D, knighty, or even RBDash47 interviewed. As for lesser-known, I'd say Symphony or ChaoticHarmony.

What constitutes popular? Or not-so-popular?

In any case, you want Wanderer D for sure. He's not only done some good stuff, but he does many other things for the community, such as the How-To guides, being a mod, generally encouraging people to take pride in their work (fighting the good fight against the old "fan fiction is the lowest of the low" sentiment), and putting on three (so far) Q&A sessions with popular authors. There's probably more I'm forgetting. Also, he has a cool accent.

(I can say from those Q&A sessions that Aesthetic B interviewed quite well in my opinion and in an unrelated recent interview by a brony livestream, GhostOfHeraclitus both interviewed well and had a cool accent. But I expect they probably count as popular.)

JMac for the not-so-popular? He did manage to make a character deliberately designed to be boring to everypony around her incredibly interesting for the reader.

Edit: I wonder why I got a downvote for the on-topic post and an upvote later when I went off-topic? Too wordy? Should I not recommend based on accent (that wasn't meant to be the serious reason)? Is recommending Ghost too biased of me? My "official" votes were for Wanderer D and JMac. I'm confused.

Will we get musical sections like in the Brony documentary?

I don't care about the popular folks too much, because I think what's most important are those barely discovered talents that need a bit more attention. My votes for that, in which case, are Redsquirrel456 and Sharaloth.

Popular: Wanderer D
Not-As-Popular (by comparison): Bad Horse.
Special Bonus: If you put them in a cage match. I've got money on Bad Horse, he fights dirty.

Myself, and then my good friend Nonagon.

What? Can't I self-inflate a litte bit? :unsuresweetie:

Oh, one more thing: Ponyfic is only one aspect of the fandom, and while it isn't anything to be overlooked, if you're going to spend the time to make a documentary, I would suggest covering music, art, animation, and the like, as well.

Popular: RazedRainbow
Not-So-Popular: RazedRainbow

No, but seriously

Popular: Cold in Gardez

Not So Popular: I don't know how "not so popular" he is, but Kegisak

Yeah, but Wanderer D manifests with a katana as standard as well as a collection of Pokeballs he can use to summon other authors to fight on his side, one of which contains Wanderer D, who manifests with a katana as standard as well as a collection of Pokeballs...

I'm not saying Bad Horse would loose, just that Wanderer D is no easy foe. Bad Horse would have to pull something really special to win. Wow, I want to see that cage match now.

kkat, SleeplessBrony, and SS&E

I know it's three popular authors, but that's how it is :scootangel:

Fiction already got overlooked in the "official" brony documentary.
It miffs me a bit.

Popular: Rust?
Not: Thorax

Cold in Gardez for popular. The man's my personal hero.

Skywriter. for less-known.

Thebandbrony (Musician, Fic writer. Romance/Clop author and genrally all around great author that can do more than just clop. Leads the kind of life people outside the fandom wouldn't consider an author of erotica would lead. Loves Jazz and appreciates the awesomeness of TEA!)

Prancydora Prancypants (Because if ever I'd elect anyone for ambassador of ponyfics it'd be that gentlemare right there. I mean gentlecolt!)

RBDash47(for having read and interviewed so many authors and give his take on what he considers fanfiction to be in the fandom)

If you can get a hold of him, the one behind Luna Vs Progress series. Because Luna. :twilightblush:

And Seanessy the real life lawyer that writes RariJack stories.

I have tons more but I guess what I'd like it for us to show a diverse group of people, with great stories and skills, and who aren't your stereotypical basement dweller living off pony pron. People with different takes on the fandom, the show, and why they choose to write the things they do and how it affects them or what they'd like people to take from their works.

If its more than just an introduction as to why people like the show, and going to go in detail about all our facets, than I think as many that are willing to speak the better. I for one have different views then Pen and you as you all do with each other I'd imagine. So I'd like a serious multiple POV of many authors. Even people like ImJustAnotherBrony and Bronystories and Regidar and Shortskirts would be great additions to what I mentioned.

To each their own though, not trying to say how anything should go and there is so much footage.audio one can fit into a video without becoming an extended uncut Lord of the Rings Trilogy + Hobbit which you'd have to watch before LotR :P

Others below also offer great suggestions, I hope we get a good assortment of them.

Popular (assuming): Daemon of Decay

Not as popular: Kaidan

They're pretty closely related in story type. One writes within the "Asylumverse" and another WROTE the "Asylumverse"

As I'd feel arrogant putting my own name forward, I'd recommend Varanus and Kegisak.

I'll suggest:

Bookplayer 'cause her blog posts are so interesting to read and Skywriter 'cause being interviewed makes him so nervous--I think he's the only fanfic writer who appeared in the Brony documentary, too. At least, he was the only one I recognized...

Mike

I'd say Device Heretic, if he were still around (I miss that kid), as I doubt any author here had such grand levels of both fame and infamy. In lieu of him, I recommend Daetrin, Varanus, or Kwakerjack. They are at least moderately popular, and I like the hell out of them.

For the lesser known fellows, at least in terms of story exposure, Sapidus3, author of the magnificent and woefully unfinished Equestria's Twilight. Honestly, I just want to see if anybody can find him. He's been gone a long while. Or, me, I guess? Nobody knows who the hell I am. Or Skywriter, for a serious suggestion.

I'll stop now.

Haven't watched it; did they cover music and animation? If so, then you're right, if not, then those artists should be equally miffed.

I don't know what the line for "popular" and "not popular" are.
I find myself wanting to recommend Ghost of Heraclitus as the 'popular' one, but I have an exaggerated viewpoint.
For someone relatively obscure, I would recommend Horizon.

913244 1up to that!

ok, umm... what about cold in the gardez, the decendant and ponydora prancypants rage-quiting at call of duty?

because comedy

Music was covered, animation was as well.

Fiction or "story writers" was mentioned as it's own and in the "pegasister" section.

913229

Who knows maybe they will include music inspired by the stories

I nominate Fernin, for either category.

Hmm, that rather rustles my jimmies. Carry on.

Well the most obvious for popular would probably be penstroke.

Lesser known... Quillsaga, maybe?
