Blog Number 250: "Back Where You Began" Edition
Funny how I've written more blog posts in the last three years than I did for the prior nine. Must've been a gradual confidence thing.
I was going to be a smarty-pants and pretentiously ask which came first: the domestication of the horse, or the rise of complex civilization (i.e. cities). Only it turns out they're not straightforward phenomena, given the gradual association of humans and horses during the last 10,000 years plus, as well as the haziness of when early villages and agricultural settlements segue into unambiguous cities. (At a rough guess, however, horses seem to have been almost fully domesticated in the Eurasian steppes about 3,500-3,000 B.C., whereas the first known city might have been Eridu in 5,400 B.C., so point goes to complex civilization here).
So let me try something else...

So I'm guessing one of the counts is for "number of users who viewed the blog, irrespective of how many times any one user did so".
**** Includes the current blog post. Since 250 of those are my own doing, that adds up to 105 mentions on other people's. That said, I know at least one of them has nothing to do with me, as it's a review of "A Canterlot Wedding" and the only match is:
It would imply months of higher militarization in Canterlot, if not a flagrantly impossible number of years.

So... I'd say about 92 more involved mentions total, e.g. reviews and blog promotions. This doesn't include reviews off-site, mind you, or Loganberry would have a sizeable portion all to himself thanks to his ponyfic roundup reviews (he's done thirteen that include me as one of the candidates).
Funny how 2014 (exactly ten years prior to today) remains the only year wherein I posted absolutely nothing. My activity in general went quiet for a couple of years around that time - blog posts and stories too - and to this day I'm still not sure why. I mean, nothing particularly traumatic or dramatic happened to throw me off, and if anything I remember enjoying Season Four as a return to form around that same time. Maybe it was just a deliberate strategy for the sake of trying a new tack? Curious.
Anyway, 2014 might have been a dud, but 2024 I hope will be a blast.

A lot interesting there, especially the trivia! I can only imagine trying to pierce together number of times I’ve been mentioned outside of my own blogs, given the official name change last year, even if I had effectively been Ghost Mike for 2+ years now. It would mean cross-referencing with a separate search via the old name and eliminating a lot of dupes…!

I get why you did it, but consistency such as this is one reason why I'd never change my handle. Ever since I found out that "impossible numbers" should have been "imaginary numbers", given the mathematical reference I was going for, I've just gone the route of the Unseen University Librarian: gotten so used to my current form that I've resisted all efforts to change it.*
* Give or take my experiment with the "Blue Chameleon VI" alternative account, but that was a side project.
Besides, "Impossible" has a bit more punch than "Imaginary", methinks.
