Extraordinary Words: The NaPoWriMo That Never Was · 11:35am Nov 20th, 2020

Blog Number 116: Maniacal Milestones Edition

Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in a long time, I find myself in an extraordinary position. Despite having no official NaPoWriMo this year, I may yet actually manage to write, for the first time ever,

100,000 words

in a month. :pinkiegasp:

It's a massive improvement over last year, where I took part officially but aimed for 10,000 words and achieved even less. Keep in mind, last year I was still in a slump and veering back and forth after the exhaustion of 2018.

It's even an improvement over the 2018 NaPoWriMo challenge, where I did meet the official 50,000 words but felt so drained and demotivated afterwards that I could barely notice the achievement, much less care.

Otherwise, my best was back in 2017, roughly in the middle of my personal renaissance, and even that was marred by some really bad days.

This time, however, I'm not only on fire in terms of performance, but in terms of psyche. I feel great!

Excluding today, there are ten days to go. I surpassed 70,000 words yesterday. I need another 30,000 words in order to meet the 100,000-word target. Who knows? I might even manage to publish another fic before then.

Dare I, folks? Dare I? Dare I? Huh, huh, huh? :pinkiehappy:

Also, for the first time since the number 0 was a thing, my blog count matches my story count. Odds are, next time it will surpass it: blogs, it turns out, are easier than stories.

Can confirm.

Also, here's hoping you maintain your current momentum!

Can confirm.

As can the massive 2020 spike in blog posts on my About page. :ajsmug:

Also, here's hoping you maintain your current momentum!

Or even exchange it for some acceleration, if I can find a good booster. :rainbowdetermined2: Thanks!

What a day! :yay:

I don't know why I was so reticent about them for so long, either, beyond generally not feeling I had much to contribute. :applejackunsure: Still have problems figuring out topics to talk about, at times, especially since I prefer to keep fic details close to my chest before they're published, and some - OK, a lot - never get that far.

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" :rainbowlaugh:

Wooooo. Flaming tire for the win! Because you are both on fire, and on a roll, get it? Maybe I need a better analogy. Either way, awesome that you’re trucking along. Looking forward to seeing what comes from all those words.

Cue, for no adequately explored reason, "Convoy" by C. W. McCall. :ajsmug:

Either way, awesome that you’re trucking along. Looking forward to seeing what comes from all those words.

Can't promise they'll all be publishable, even in the long run. Trouble's always been it's easier to start than to finish. But Heartbreak Hotel and Still Waters Run Deep already make up a good chunk of it, so who knows what'll come out next?

Also, for the first time since the number 0 was a thing, my blog count matches my story count.

The best milestone and achievement possible! 100% matchup in precise perfection! A milestone that the world deserves to see for all times!
So it is immortalized on the undying face of the Internet forever now! :trollestia:

Only 30,000 words anymore? You're going to do that with ease. :yay:

Don't expect that planetary alignment to last more than a few days. Either another blog post or another story will change that soon enough.

Blimey, I just noticed the Feb 2019 page preserved in that archive, too. That's about 21 months ago. My account - to say nothing of my numbers - looked so different back then...

Well, my target for remaining words is closer to 25,000 words now. I did a little bit more work today, though not as much as I was expecting.

Which is why I archived it, now it can be seen FOREVER! :pinkiecrazy:

Sounds like somepony experiences that feeling of looking at an old record of things they did for the first time..... Every moment in time has value, even if we can't always see that value, and no moment ever comes back. So you should be glad that this archive exists and enjoy the ride with it.

Slight fatigue on the home stretch? Not surprising, but I know you will pull through.

Yeah, definitely a sense of "My word, look how far I've come" in seeing that archive. The distance from here to February 2019 suddenly looks massive. And there are fics and blog posts now that seemed unimaginable then.

It's not fatigue. If anything, I can keep writing fine. It's the disorientating surplus of directions to travel that get me down. So many projects compete for attention in my head, and meanwhile I'm trying to figure out whether I'm using this site too much (getting distracted) or not enough (feeling isolated).

Damn, I don't like it when that happens. It takes a while to find my bearings again, and it's an unproductive while in the meantime. :ajsleepy:

That's amazing! My best streak is probably ~100,000 words in a year :twilightblush:. Congratulations, and I hope you keep it going!

I managed to earn over 95,000 words in March 2018, but fell short of the full 100,000. History being what it was, things went to hell after that. :applejackunsure: I'm hoping history does not repeat itself here.

Thanks, and I'll certainly see what I can do. Just over 20,000 words left, and one week to do 'em in. :rainbowdetermined2:

If it’s any consolation, writing comes in waves for me, which I’ve learned to accept and not fight. I only recently started writing again after penning zero words per day for months and months. I’ve come to think of it as letting the well of words fill up again, and while it’s filling there are video games to play :rainbowwild:

I don't know if mine comes in waves - it overall seems completely random - but there are definite ups and downs with my writing. Video games are often involved. :moustache:
