Twilight's dinner party to show Celestia Starlight's progress as a student of friendship was a disaster of epic proportions.

Okay, fine, that's being a little dramatic. The evening didn't go as planned of course, but some good things did come from it, it's not like anybody got hurt, and Twilight did her best (give her a break--she's new to this 'teaching' thing). So why did Celestia--normally poised and calm and understanding Celestia--look so angry? She acted like Twilight was inconveniencing her on purpose! No wonder the friendship princess was so frazzled.

Later that night, Celestia returns to Canterlot. And, after a lot of stubborn denial (and some interference from a certain being of chaos), she finally confides in Princess Luna the real reason she was so frustrated. Luna listens, comforts her, and then proceeds to do her duty as princess of the night by making everyone's evening a little more peaceful.

The night heals all wounds.

Cadance, Shining Armor, you had one job--don't make a baby that will bring about the apocalpyse of ponykind as we all know it.

Well, so much for that plan of action.

Yes, Flurry Heart is here, she's powerful, she's an alicorn, and she nearly took out the Crystal Empire just by crying! Time to take a look at some 'off screen' moments about how exactly everypony is coping with this information and all of the events it set into motion.

Discord Day...

Just a term bronies in the human world use to describe the random day of February 29th, or an actual holiday in Equestria courtesy of a certain meddling master of chaos who has decided to insist on the public recognition he so richly deserves?

Why can't both be true?

Read what happens as Discord attempts to explain to the princesses of the sun and moon his logic behind just creating a new day and night for the year (and without permission, no less). How, oh how, will the spirit of chaos talk his way out of this one?

And Happy Discord Day, everypony!

What do you do when you're having a dull/stressful/confusing/boring Hearts and Hooves Day? Most ponies would probably go get chocolate and just wait for the romance in the air to pass. The master of chaos, however, wouldn't dream of having such a predictable response. Instead he goes to Princess Celestia to lodge a formal complaint about the holiday as a confusing mess of emotions and illogical social policy to which no creature should be subjected!

Of course, with a little prying, Celestia gets out of Discord the real reason he's complaining about the day. And she happens to have the perfect friendly solution to turn his stubborn pout back into a warm smirk. And in the process, the two former enemies get to know each other just a little better.

(So much fluff. If you're looking for a cuddly read for Valentine's Day, you have come to the right place).

*Set during or after season 5*

It's the Hearthswarming Eve after that last fateful Hearts and Hooves Day night when Princess Luna visited Canterlot's best donut shop for a snack and discovered a special connection with the baker Donut Joe. Yet, despite months of visits (and flirting), their relationship still continues not to progress beyond the friendly to the amorous (though both ponies secretly wish it would!).

Finally though, just as it seems the couple is making some progress, who should walk into the donut shop but...

...Princess Celestia, of all ponies!

Yes, Princess Celestia enters, and she has an urgent (Discord-related) request of her sister. The situation quickly escalates into a princess fight, passionate confrontations, and shenanigans galore!

Twilight Sparkle is really getting into the habit of reforming the villains she goes up against rather than just defeating them. This tactic isn't necessarily a bad thing of course: in fact, it's kind of great! But eventually one would think that all of these former bad guys would want to start getting to know each other a little better--or at least that's what Discord thinks should happen. So one day just after the time-travelling escapade, as Starlight walks through Ponyville with Twilight, she suddenly finds herself teleported away to a big surprise courtesy of the chaos master. And she's not the only one...

Prepare for cameos and shenanigans!

"What About Discord?"

What indeed about Discord? How strange for the master of chaos to suddenly descend upon Ponyville, bond with his favorite friends besides Twilight Sparkle, and then use that bonding (coupled with sarcastic jabs and sly glances) to snarkily teach Twilight Sparkle a friendship lesson of his own in an almost season 4-ish manner. Certainly a genuine desire for deeper friendships with the other girls played a role in his actions, but what other thoughts and plans might have influenced his behavior?

Luckily, a few days after the end of this latest chaotic adventure, Discord shows up at Twilight's castle to explain his goals of the previous weekend and to hint at some of his friendship plans for the future (for Ponyville and beyond). And he begins by asking the friendship princess a simple question about his teasing this time around: was it too much?

The conversation that follows illuminates many things.

"We've had some interesting nights..."

Celestia and Discord--tense acquaintances, close friends, or something more? It seems like they must spend some time together off screen to have developed any relationship at all. But of course Celestia only has nights free, and Discord, no matter when he hangs out with somepony, always has to make things interesting with his chaotic ways. And so we end up with some 'interesting nights' for the sun princess and the master of chaos...all alone...in Celestia's room...frequently.

Just what could they be doing in there?

(Yes, John de Lancie said a sentence, and I wrote a ten thousand word story about it. I knew something like this would happen if I went to his two panels at Bronycon, but I did it anyway, and I have no regrets! )

What better way for Discord to demonstrate how well he's come to understand that it's perfectly okay to have multiple friends than to host one of his traditional Tuesday Teas for Fluttershy and invite their two newest friends, Tree Hugger and Smooze, to join them? The four laugh, talk, and share (and drink tea, of course) as Discord slowly learns to accept and embrace the special happiness that comes from learning to care for and be cared for by many others in different ways and for different reasons.

Later that night, Celestia pays Discord a visit to discuss this year's Gala, next year's Gala, and what he's learned from recent events. And after she leaves, Smooze and Discord decide to spend the rest of their evening living it up with a 'new friends' slumber party. The rascals.

Queen Chrysalis is so very tired... No, not physically--that is just an act she puts on for her prison guards of course (and for Twilight Sparkle soon) as part of her plan for escape. Chrysalis is tired in a much deeper way. She is done with scavenging love, with being violently defeated, with being locked away with her people for centuries at a time. And she is even done with the seemingly merciful methods of persecution and incarceration forced upon her by 'the purple one'...Twilight Sparkle...the key to Equestria's prosperity and to its utter demise. The changeling Queen has figured it out, you see! It's Twilight! Princess Twilight is the enemy! And her horrible, unstoppable, inedible friendship!

Back in Canterlot, Celestia knows things can't go on like this for the ponies or the changelings, and she does her best to bring Twilight to an understanding of the true complexity of the situation and the best way in which the young princess can help (after all, a princess who assisted with Discord's reform can certainly work any miracles of friendship.)

Still, there are those who doubt and despise the true harmony Twilight and the Magic of Friendship could bring.... It seems like the changelings are everywhere and nowhere, and even Celestia is uneasy.
