That's true, though that thought didn't even cross my mind
Holy hellfish! The princesses built a seemingly open town which is actually an asylum. The borders are enchanted with mind manipulating magic and so the inmates won't try to leave even if they intended to. And for their plan to work they established a government within the institution and made the psychos the ruling race. But recently their power over them was lessening and so they had to put in the most unstable unicorn ever and make her a "princess" to make them follow her and ensure that they would stay where they are. They gave her fake memories of a life as Celestia's student and made her watch the other crazed ones. She thinks that she prevents Equestria from certain doom, but keeps the inmates in check instead. First the friendship letters and now the diary are not for future generations to learn about friendship, but are enchanted parchments that render the mind of the writer, making them think they are writing something about friendship, but are writing about the inmates and what they'll need for the next week instead.
That is evil!!!

This one time I found the proof that our school systems want to make us into robot like people who know the same things , but with the illusion of the freedom of choice. The moment you act as an individual and think differently they do everything to bring you back down and back to the others again. Those who can follow their rules to an absolute maximum are rewarded with praise and success, but think differently and you got the whole system against you.

We need an explanation, but this does multiple potential things:
It provides some form of credibility to the insane Unicorn Lyra HeartStrings for other ponies to deal with, at least temporarily.
It gives Lyra a chance to form more relationships with the mane six, assuming that Twilight attempts to help Lyra acclimate
It leaves you with so much to explain yourself for, and it leaves me anticipating with bated breath
it means that there's so much space for SHENANIGANS!
And I foresee Lyra trying to figure out exactly what part she plays in the conspiracy of others.
Also, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

But I do agree, I did do it (apart from the thought that this scene would be amusing) to shift the setup and perspective for some upcoming ideas a bit.
Still, I should have prepared a proper worldview beforehand. That's the thing that's mostly delaying any updates (apart from work) at the moment.
