Yeah, that's definitely one of the more sucky parts of wrestling, especially in those early days. So much of wrestling's charm is derived from larger-than-life personalities with superhuman qualities, yet when they can’t meet those ridiculously high standards anymore, they’re often abandoned and forgotten.
I’ve been trying to read more about the history of pro-wrestling (most of it talks about Toots Mondt) so I've heard a little about Ed Lewis. But, your comment gave me reason to do a deeper dive into his story and watch some of his clips! Dude was a total rockstar in the ring, it's unfortunate that he didn’t get the end that he deserved.

You should also look into luchador El Santo (Rodolpho Guzman Huerta) He starred in 54 movies as a crime fighting luchador. He is a major reason luchadors are so popular in Mexico.
