Darkevony

I've always said one thing about who I am as a person. "Eternally in pursuit of the goodness in the heart." It's what called me to the show. It's why I'm here now. And it's what I love to write about.

How do you begin to teach children the cautionary tales of, well, being overly good? When should we stop pushing our lessons of virtue and goodwill to them so they can learn the valuable lesson of self-preservation? At what point do we ever learn that things like self-interest are not necessarily bad concepts?

In the colorful world of Equestria, these questions become more poignant. As I watched my friend be reduced to nothing, I understood the perversion in those unbridled ideas.

I'm not quite sure but I feel like this story is incomplete. Also it needs to be 1000 words to publish.

Good writing though.

Oh shoot, what happened to the rest? Darn, let me see if I can fix it.

There we go. Sorry about that. It was some shenanigans with my desktop and my phone.

What a good read, definitely. Poor lil guy

That's more like it. Interesting. You and I share some similarities in our writing. I wonder if we've lived similar lives?

Well done, I wish you all the best in your future writing endeavors.

I see this story as a way to give this warning (my own take on the subject, nothing more):

One can be selfless to the point of having nothing left to give.

One can be selfish to the point of having no one to give to.

Both things, both extremes, can lead to self-destruction.

So, a balance between the two, between selflessness and selfishness, would go a long way to avoiding self-destruction.

I wonder what Rarity would think of a tale like this?

Oh GJ, you're the best. Much love. It's rare when I have someone figure me out like this. With a fantastic breakdown too.

That's definitely why I had the narrator and the protagonist be their own entities.

I also had Rarity in mind too. Part of why the selfless child was a unicorn, and hinted at to be white in coat color with an aunt. As if to say, maybe generosity runs in the family. Just a neat little detail connection for some vague symbolism, nothing deep-loreish/world building.

I often get into my own headspace about philosophy, and that's where these short stories crop up. Although sometimes I feel like they're too artsy fartsy even for my own liking, haha. I'm a lot more shy and mindful about my distilled opinions like this, since I realize FIMFiction's audience is likely only here to read horse words.

This reminds me of the main character from Fallout: Equestria. This Littlepip is a grey-ish unicorn that has shown herself to be a little selfless.

Potentially spoiler-y: Big spoiler! She sacrificed herself to bring the sun back. In Fallout Equestria: Horizons, Littlepip is somewhat referenced to have a suffered from mental issue that made her selfless either from alturism or a martyr complex.

Interesting story, Wordsmith! You've certainly brought to light about alturism or martyr complex. In case you don't want to spoil Fallout: Equestria by Kkat, that story definitely got me into a martyr complex-y mood for a while. Luckily!
