Sir Anon and Celestia have a talk about the largest, bloodiest war in equestrian history. A war so horrible, so terrible, that hundreds had their lives taken.

Short little rewrite of another old greentext of mine. Was a oneshot from a writing thread. Rewritten from the ground up, using the old story as a skeleton, with the rewrite adding the meat.

(that sounds weird)

NOM NOM...
What cookie?

Pretty fair and honest characterization of a holy knight, if over the top in some places. To be honest though, that's to be expected from anon fics.
Good job.

Sir Anon and Celestia have a talk about the largest, bloodiest war in equestrian history. A war so horrible, so terrible, that hundreds had their lives taken.

Pfft!

Largest? Bloodiest? Just over a hundred casualties? Hah!

Those poor uneducated and naive ponies, they're child-like minds will break if they ever heard of WW1 and WW2 casualties and destruction combined.

11475875
Well, no spoilers to the story itself, but she doesn’t like what she hears

11475878

Even back then, medieval times have even up to thousands of deaths. :applejackconfused:

Shows on how bloody different it is between Earth and Equestria.

that is how human history is - people ready to die for what they believe is right

And then the madlads actually go and do it! :pinkiecrazy:

11475880
And it only gets worse, both in terms of military casualties and civilian deaths.

This version of Celestia might even go into grief induced depression at the total number of deaths during WW2, the Battle of Stalingrad alone accounts for an estimated 2 million deaths.

They did not respect our desire to visit these lands

Actually, looking into it, christians did live rather freely in Jerusalem. Jewish people, too.

The actual reason for the crusade was simply to "take back the holy land."

The caliphate had a diverse group of people living in Jerusalem. It is credited for being one of the reasons the islamic golden age happened what with different people of different opinions sharing their knowledge.

They were quite apparently called Dhimmis and were allowed to have some of their own laws if it was considered acceptable by islamic standards.

For example, the Jewish community of Medina, one of the two major cities was allowed to have its own Halakhic courts, and other religion or beliefs had their own law system in general.

Of course, I have little knowledge on the matter, so correct me if I am inaccurate or missed something. I do not mean to be rude in any way, shape, or form.

Also, congrats at making it very neutral over who was in the right at the time of the war.

While you were right that Christians did live in the holy land, the sentiment against them was growing more and more hostile as they became more of a minority. Eventually the Muslims had decided that no new pilgrims could arrive from Byzantine due to hostile relations, which were spun as anti Christian.

This eventually led Alexis’s Conemus, the leader of Byzantine pleading for Pope Urban ll to preach a sermon that inspired the crusades.

The main goal wasn’t actually Jerusalem itself, it was to retake the Sepulcher that was in Jerusalem from the Muslims so they could freely visit it.

To be honest, besides what caused it I have no idea what happened after.

Also thanks for the compliment, but to be frank I believe that both sides had equal claim to the land, the Muslims just won out. Wars happen, it’s almost human nature.

11478672
You may just be the first person I met, me included, who thought that both sides had equal claim. Good job!

Nice talking to you.

May we humans not spend so much time fighting each other this year as we are oft to do. Although that may just be a wish.

Have a good rest of your timeline!

No what Alexios wanted was for the pope to ask the nobles of Europe to come to fight as mercenaries in Anatolia and defend Byzantine borders. He didn't expect that Urban would preach a crusade to retake the Levant.

Also, good thing anon didn't tell Celestia about the siege of jerusalem where the crusaders butchered the jewish and Muslim inhabitants.

“You think my country knows no war, Anonymous? We fought the griffins in the worst war Equestria has ever known! Hundreds died, HUNDREDS!"

The World Wars, the American Civil War, and the Taiping Rebellion: How cute.

This is a good look into how horrifying human conflict would be to another species.

11475875
I don't think that's something to be proud of.

I know. I'm just staying the facts here. :applejackunsure:

Celestia will change her mind very quickly if she heard about our many, many bloody wars that makes Equestria's own "wars" look like a school fight.
