Really, that's my issue with the whole story. It feels like a thinly veiled defense of the pairing that still doesn't manage to convince me. You have some good points, especially the importance of family, but over all it feels like a combination of "pair the spares" and, to paraphrase Sherlock Holmes, "Once you have eliminated the undesirable, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the OTP." Granted, a thousand words doesn't exactly offer a lot of room for subtlety...
