I really hate losing memory, as I cant remember which major RPG game I played the last few years has such a World Tree in it, except it didnt have Golden Oak Aspens?

Which requires the person to experience the same situation. A in he would have needed to be in the car with his parents, have lung cancer with his girl friend and fallen through that roof too.
Survivors guilt is 2 soldier in a battle. they are both getting shot and one of them is killed. the other is left wondering why he didn't die instead or as well usually feeling the other deserverd to live insread of them.
Jethro, at this point in the story is certain that he is the sole cause of all the misfortunes of those around him. This is a trait of narcissism, where the person believes that things happen only under their influence. So certain was he, that he didn't consider other factors that added to the issue, and assumed full responsability of them because no other factors matter to him other than himself.
Don't know if this was the origionally intended characterisation or just a symptom of the drama the author wanted to inject but it is how Jethro was protrayed at the beginning of the story. I am glad he has become a better written and more interesing character since. Starting out with such character flaws is not a problem as it sets the protagonist with something to overcome, and his friends, rightfully so, helped him to eventually pull his head out of his ass.
I wonder what these deer would thing of Lord of the Rings

I can't tell exactly where you are in the story, the discord arc is pretty long. But if you are at the part when they are fighting and James is going insane... Then you have a few hundred thousand more words of life threatening injury, both physical and mental, a coma with a false reality, the cruelest curses imaginable, and one of the other characters develops suicidal tendencies.
Things get rough and I don't blame anyone for bailing out there in the story, especially when it's around that time a alternate branch story shows up "The Price of Failure" and just looking at the cover image makes me depressed, I have read it, and it's such a depressing story that the author hasn't or can't even finish it.
To be honest I'm not sure why I originally brought up "The Lost Element" as comparison in my first comment. I guess I must have just been really mad that Jethro was disrespected, and wanted a strong example of long narrative drama, or trauma as the case may be.
Pfft, modern americans. You always accept the apology, even if an unwarranted one, or it cheapens the move to provide it. Just explain that everything is fine.
