Hey, it's up! This one is really good.

Oh, this should be quite the journey. Looking forward to it. And to everyone's reactions come the end.

Ah, we're getting into intrigue here. I do love how Fancy Pants can disarm Sunset through sincere compliments simply because she that unaccustomed to them. Also, we have context for the story title, if not the deeper meaning of the metals' symbolism. Now to see how Sunset handles griffon royalty...

Is this the last story in the series?

Hopefully, no.

There would be one more plus epilogue.

The ponies already provide entertainment. And you tried to tell me that there would be no sport in Equestria.

Well, that's not at all ominous. Nor are Gideon's assorted displays of power. What is Sunset getting herself into?

Also, very interesting use of arimaspis. (Arimaspae?) Eagerly looking forward to seeing where you go from here.

You've got an unclosed center tag at the section break.

In any case, it is clear that the Equestrian contingent doesn't fully appreciate the nature of their hosts... but at the same time, Sunset doesn't appreciate the nature of the Equestrian contingent. This could go in a number of unpleasant directions. Hopefully she'll be better prepared in the future, no matter what comes.

Whoops. Fixed. Thank you.

And you probably get this all the time - because it's true - but you are a gem, and the best thing in this fandom since knightly started this site.
Thank you for your comments.

Huh. This is a fascinating reworking of a plot from the comics. Brilliant blend of intrigue and high magic. Definitely looking forward to seeing whatever Sunset has planned.

And Celestia is so tragically good at blinding herself to unpleasant truths, isn’t she?

(Also, given the framing device, I can only imagine what Sunset’s audience thinks of all of this. Also also, sorry for the delay.)

Well, it certainly resembles a plan. Now the question is how exactly it falls apart...

The story to be published every Wednesday.

How many Wednesdays will that take?

A few.
Its about 25 chapters long, IIRC.
But if you want to read ahead, I'm happy to share the gdoc - as long as you give me your opinion after you read it.

I love the scheming and politicking of this story, I never feel like I know what comes next. Keep up the good work!

She's a changeling! It makes so much sense! Sunset, do not trust! I repeat, do not trust!

Ooooh! It's reaching a boiling point!

Your Sunset really is like a dark mirror to MagnetBolt's Witch of Everfree. Bravo! An utterly riveting and mildly disturbing read from beginning to end! Can't wait to see what you have in store for the future!

I'm very glad you liked it.

Twilight beamed as the two students of the Sun walked to the rearing horse statue. "Well?"

Sunset raised an eyebrow. "Well what?"

"You were part of the harmony this time. Upper and lower case. We literally couldn't have done it without you." Twilight tried to look sly, which came off like a six-year-old innocently asking how all the cookies had disappeared. "Did it change your mind any?"

"Twilight..." Sunset shook her head, but couldn't help but smile. "Never lose that optimism."

"Oh, come on!" Twilight cried, throwing her arms into the air. "Twice now, I've come to this world and overthrown a dark threat through friendship and harmony. No off—"

"Don't you even start."

After clearing her throat, Twilight continued. "Surely that makes you at least consider your philosophy may be flawed? Your attitude towards humans? And your principles in general?"

That got another shake of the head. "You're a pony, Twilight. You're a better pony than I've ever been, good enough that you can force pony solutions on nonpony problems and make them work anyway. And yes, the power of Harmony was exhilarating." Sunset smiled, bringing a hand to where familiar ears had sprouted the night before. "Having magic again was incredible." Hand and expression both fell. "But one musical number does not erase a lifetime of the dark deeds I've done for my Princess."

"But—"

"Your methods work, Twilight. I can't deny that. After last night, neither can the sirens. But mine do too." Sunset shrugged. "But hey, if we ever have a magical disaster and I can't get in touch with you, who knows? I may try it your way."

Twilight hazarded an uneasy smile. "Well—"

"But only after trying it mine."

After a few moments, Twilight sighed and said. "You know what? I'll take what I can get."

Sunset grinned and clapped her on the shoulder. "You're sounding more like the Princess every day."

(Sorry I fell off the wagon for so long with this one. Thrilling intrigue and an exquisitely merciless Sunset. Thank you for another great installment in the saga.)

You used to love `hanging out` with those Lulamoon twins.

Where's the eyes emoji at when you need it. :O What a start.

Love how you showed that, even though he's been raised as a royal, he's still a kid. :)

She's gonna fuck that pony. <.<

Really liking how "little pony" comes across as a huge insult, like a familial nickname that anyone outside the family only uses in a mocking way.

I see your name, Prince, like no name of any King from now on — no griffon shall ever rise above you.

Ooh, I love this. :D No one will rise above him, because they're all going down!

"Oh not so much putting them on ," the Count smiled as his magic reached for the clothespins and ties that I gave up upon. "But we'll see if the skill is transferable."

XD

A bit vague at the end, there.

oh fantastic :D

"Like wormwood, but thinner — like... almonds." My eyes shot open with surprise.
"Quite so." He nodded. "That's how you know it's been poisoned."

The buildup to this!

I'm very happy with this scene. Not every scene in this fic worked, but this one I think worked out very nicely.

Definitely a highlight so far and the perfect way to conclude an act. :)

Quite the rousing fight. :D

I had been getting worried after the last chapter, but at last, Fancy Pants shows his true colors, and there I see the pony I always liked. :)

Ah, I wondered when she would come back into play. A much smaller role in the story than I anticipated, though.

also what just happened ._.

So the mistake was thinking Gideon would ever let himself be beaten.

I love how the gallery shows that war is the desire of the younger generation. :)

Turning Galad against Fancy? Not sure what she's playing at...

Well, a boy brought up on old stories would do a lot of things to save a damsel in distress.

"Remember this:" I said, tightening my magic grip, "am stronger than you." my magic constricted around him, as I swatted away his feeble counter-spell. "Faster than you." A fan drew blood from his throat. "More powerful than you. And there is nothing you can do to stop me."

oh yeah :D

"Strawberry Leaf is a great diplomat. She's a good leader, she's better than me in every regard, except in one: She's a good little pony. My only advantage, the only thing I stand out in the whole delegation is that I'm a monster. No pony else in Equestria has taken a life of another in hundreds of years - Sun above, Fancy, they can barely stand to break rules, much less break bones. And I -- I am a monster. You wanted this Fancy and that is what you got."

getting shivers :D this is my favorite part of the story

"I played this melody for the King once." She set the lyre aside. "They said it pleased Lord Guto. But you're not here for music, are you?"

I see what you did there XD

oh yay, my prediction came true :D

man, I get why she's doing it, but this kid does not deserve this D:

PresentPerfect

"Y-yes." I could go to her! To go to her house, to stay in her company with no gift -- it seemed like a travesty, but she said I could, so...

God, she's so young still.

PresentPerfect
Author Interviewer

Well, that's an intensely cynical look at love. <.<

Oh heck, she's a changeling! :D

PresentPerfect
Author Interviewer

wow, here I thought he was just a plaything, but she really just did him in c.c so what did she take from him...

PresentPerfect

Besides, I trusted Bluette.

Worst idea ever! :')

"Dad?" the little prince said, "Daddy, please."

oh god, it hurts D:

it hurts a lot :(

"It was I, brother! I did it! I poisoned you!"

oh, shit :O

God, she is cold. D:

All four of my legs shot straight, and my horn stabbed her in the neck, just above the collarbone.

Fucking whoa o_o

All I needed to do was to take it in my hooves and whisper a story to it.

This is amazing.

This finale, oh my god. :D I love his prophecy at the end.
