Every Catholic Church on earth, no matter how small or secluded, has at least one maintenance guy. They're usually called a custos or an under-sacristan.

One particular Church has a maintenance pony instead.

...or, as many would call it, an acquired state of not dead.

For a given definition of "many."

Engaging thus far, especially the flashbacks. Looking forward to seeong where you go with this.

04:29. Unlock the door connecting the sacristy to the altar, light up the candles for the altar and the large tabernacle (golden holy cupboard)—don’t forget to bow to the tabernacle before and after entering the dias they were upon. Take out the ampules (glass vials of sorts—similar to those for soy sauce), fill one with wine and the other with holy water; only use the wine from the small tabernacle and not the shelves—again, bow before the tabernacle.

I can't read the word "tabernacle" without imagining some drunk Quebecois yelling "TABARNAK" (french for tabernacle) at someone:twilightsheepish:

Fixed. Thanks for the heads up!

As a Catholic myself, I'm not sure if I should read this...I'm not calling you out, but I'm just unsure.

Hey, no pressure. But, in case you're wondering: I'm trying to focus more on the Church's behavior than her teachings, from the eyes of a cynical sacristan and a non-religious quadruped. Most of the perspectives will come from my Catholic friends and my interviews with some priests and theology majors.

Hm, interesting; thanks for writing.

I can't tell if those three downvotes are from oversensitive religious karens or edgy reddit athiests who'll downvote anything involving religion, but this was very well written. Hope to see more someday.
